A Software Apprenticeship at 8th Light. Jemmy in Scala and readying for deployment. June 11, 2009 at 10:08 pm ( Scala. I spent most of the morning working on integration tests to make sure I’ve got control of the Swing side of things. Jemmy. First of all, getting up and running was a bit of a trial. I knew I wanted to drive the tests with the same framework I’m using for the rest of my testing on this project: Scalatest. MainWindow = new JFrameOperator("Tic-Tac-Toe"). And, to end it:. Of course, this is ...

Tidying up Tic-Tac-Toe and some serious writing | A Software Apprenticeship at 8th Light

https://softwareapprenticeship.wordpress.com/2009/06/12/tidying-up-tic-tac-toe-and-some-serious-writing

A Software Apprenticeship at 8th Light. Tidying up Tic-Tac-Toe and some serious writing. June 12, 2009 at 4:53 pm ( Scala. I started out by wrapping some more tests that I’d been wanting to write (clearing out TODO’s that had been hanging around). None of them were actually very hard, which was a welcome relief after struggling a bit yesterday with integration tests. A Software Apprenticeship at 8th Light. Constant improvement does not require judgmental reflection. June 9, 2009 at 6:49 pm ( Scala. Advises “There is no right answer … and always a better way. Show and discuss your code, without emotional attachment. You are not your code.” This gels with my experience in music, where I find it very easy to beat myself up mentally for mistakes that I’m not yet. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. TDD alone is not enough. It also helped to reinforce that doing TDD alone is not enough. TDD can help you create a cleaner design, but it is no guarantee. You still need design-sense to know how to structure your application beyond the basic decoupling benefits of TDD. One of the major problems my code had was that any UI that used it was not in control of the game flow. I got it in my head that this is a game and it needs a game loop. But why does Tic-Tac-Toe need a game loop? July 7, 2009 at 6:36 PM.

REST, Ajax, and other buzz words. Leave a comment ». On Tuesday, I was given the assignment to create a very basic Rails app to manage lists of items. 8th Light Book Club 1 paper down, 9 to go. Leave a comment ». This week we discussed On the criteria to be used in decomposing systems into modules. A lot of the talk centered around the age of the paper and how different it would be to work in those times. I did learn to use a few new tricks including the ternary operator in Ruby and the. Value = value to assign if nil. Idiom I was actually playing with them in this. Why did I go with the ternary operator instead of. The first one I wrote was the ternary but I really didn’t like having the two? July 8, 2009 at 9:36 PM. Laquo; TDD alone is not enough.
