Celebrating the past, Honouring the present, Embracing the future. By late 1904, the relationship between the impractical Kurikka and much of the colony deteriorated. Matti Kurikka left with about half of the colony. He was never to return. The remaining pioneers, now saddled with the full debt, carried on. The debt proved to be an impossible burden. The Kalevan Kansa Colonization Company declared bankruptcy in 1905.

Celebrating the past, Honouring the present, Embracing the future. Sointula is located on Malcolm Island, reached by ferry service. From Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. The museum is located in the old Superior School Building at 280 1. Street in Sointula. To reach the museum, either on foot or by car, turn left off the ferry and proceed three blocks to a bend in the road. The Superior School is located on the left (water side). The museum and the local library share the building.
