Living where the wild things are
soJourneyman: Melbourne
http://www.sojourneyman.blogspot.com/2012/10/melbourne.html
Living where the wild things are. Monday, October 15, 2012. I jumped, pushing against the cold St Kilda pavement and landing hard, as if stomping could stop time and change the trajectory of my life. In that cool Winter time between times. Alone on that long road, I thumped the ancient earth to nudge its orbit. I stamped to shake both worlds, and wake life from its stubborn steadfast march. But time would not be changed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). An Ausralian lost in metaphor.

Living where the wild things are. Thursday, July 21, 2011. He was thin and unkempt, with an unusual meekness about him. He had been telling me his story, how he had lost his wife and his family, and spent time in a Mexican prison - all results of a relentless drug addiction. In the middle of a sentence he paused and lifted his face to look over my shoulder. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). An Ausralian lost in metaphor. View my complete profile.

Living where the wild things are. Thursday, August 11, 2011. Tink, tink, tink. Tonight, however, they had returned early; the guitarist to his bedroom for a rare night alone, and my friend to pass out on the couch near my bed. A single potent Xanax had been washed down with mouthfuls of Jack Daniels to join the other drinks consumed during three anarchic sets. His resultant stupor had resolved into a slow purr of rhythmic snoring. A thin line of fear slid down my back. Again the finger lifted and tap...
soJourneyman: Soi 4
http://www.sojourneyman.blogspot.com/2013/02/neon-girl.html
Living where the wild things are. Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Even in the seedy surrounds of Soi 4, it was wildly out of place. Days earlier I had glanced up while crossing the street on the way back to my dim little room, and directly into her guileless eyes. I averted my view quickly and casually, but it was too late. She released my arm and left reluctantly, looking back over her shoulder in case I changed my mind. She do drug." The waitress at the bar and grill across the road where I breakfasted ...

Two Countries, One Cistern: Mos Eisley Cantona
https://twocountriesonecistern.blogspot.com/2011/11/this-piece-records-my-frustrating-and.html
Two Countries, One Cistern. Tales from the underbellies of Bangkok, Hong Kong and beyond. Saturday, 12 November 2011. This piece records my frustrating and ultimately futile mission to get up close and personal with that great footballing enigma, Eric Cantona, when he journeyed to Thailand for a spot of beach football. It ran in the South African and Australian issues of Sports Illustrated, as well as in the South China Morning Post. But 'Cantona in Pattaya! I contact organiser Paul-Dominique Vachirasind...

Two Countries, One Cistern. Tales from the underbellies of Bangkok, Hong Kong and beyond. Tuesday, 3 February 2015. Palette pimp: Riding in the hood with red. This is my essay on the colour red, which was a lot of fun to research and write. Thanks to the splendid 'eight' magazine and Ink Publishing for asking me to contribute it. These kind of 'think pieces' off the top of your head are always a bit daunting, but the most rewarding, often, when they are done. Red is life and death, love and hate, sicknes...

Two Countries, One Cistern. Tales from the underbellies of Bangkok, Hong Kong and beyond. Monday, 19 September 2011. Moby Dork and his excellent whaling misadventures. MOBY STICK: POLE-VAULTING IS FOR WIMPS. Shouted the crew, calling on their ancestors, asking that courage not fail them. Each stroke brought us closer to our prey - an 11-metre, 20-tonne bull sperm whale churning lazy circles in the warm blue sea, proclaiming his presence with each misty roar of his spout. So, journey on... | Sometimes I'd go what the heck am I doing this for?
So, journey on…. Sometimes I'd go what the heck am I doing this for? Today there were ninjas at the bank and then Og saved the day. January 9, 2012. Today, rushed to go to the bank hoping that I would make it, unlike before when I had arrived only to find the steel frame doors rolling down on my sorry face despite it was not closing time for banks already. I was there already but things ended up quite sadly for me on the customer service front. 8230; Fast and furious. And so even though I personally was ...
