Culburra Hemp House: Final Approval
http://culburrahemphouse.blogspot.com/2015/05/final-approval.html
Sunday, 17 May 2015. On the same day as the final inspection, the measure up for the shower screen took place and a month later Alpine Glass came back and installed the semi frameless shower screen in the wave mosaic shower. Although the house took longer to build than expected, it always seems to do so when you are owner building, I am pleased to have finished in the reasonable time frame of 2 1/2 years, considering that we were building on weekends 3 hours away from where we were living. The timber had...

Culburra Hemp House: May 2013
http://culburrahemphouse.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Friday, 31 May 2013. Our light yellow is an idealised version of the colour of sand or chopped hemp fibre. Further tests were carried out, both on the hemp wall and on the MgO. Top centre: Chosen colour 0.8% yellow. 4th from left: 0.8% yellow on MgO and Top far right wet test of same mix. Next time we are on site we have arranged with John to do a section on the inside of one of the wardrobes, so he can see what the product is like to use and work out the finish we want. We used offcuts of the good p...

Culburra Hemp House: June 2014
http://culburrahemphouse.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 25 June 2014. A borrowed trailer full of furniture for the house. Main living area with north facing windows. The internals are not quite finished we still have to install the internal doors, the second bathroom to finish tiling and it and laundry to render. We are looking at using a different product to finish these two rooms as the walls are mostly MgO board which did not take the hemp render well. Patchy "feature" rendered MgO wall. Hallway and Noren outside laundry. It has been two years i...

Culburra Hemp House: September 2013
http://culburrahemphouse.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 25 September 2013. A good start to the "Great Wave" mosaic. However, as I got into the intricate part of the design progress slowed. I think I must be crazy to take on such a time consuming project when I am already so busy trying to finish the build, but the potential to create something really interesting and unusual inspires me to continue. Slower progress on the detailed section. Checking that bath sat level on the hob. Bath hob with separate supports for inner and outer timbers. Dressed H...

http://culburrahemphouse.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, 29 March 2014. In October last year we began to have some problems with the render. The render went on ok and looked fine when wet but dried very blotchy and with lots of cracks. Subsequent walls looked fine. Render chipped off bedroom wall. The first wall that was chipped off looked fine when first re rendered. Wall done the second time when drier. Wall done on the same day and same mix turned out fine. Redone wall that was wet down after rendering. Test patch of lime paint. In the second week...

Wednesday, 28 May 2014. Bathroom external wall rendered. Rain chain and more finished walls. The internal walls are finished and there are only three external walls, three upper walls and a small section around the front door to go. Freshly rendered back wall.
