We are 100% off grid and derive 90% of our power from solar, wind and biomass. We acquire the remaining 10% from propane and gasoline, which will decrease to 5% hopefully within the next year. Wednesday, May 14, 2008. For several years I have been saving tree seedlings that pop up in my garden courtesy of friendly birds. Some have gotten rather big. Each summer it is a lot of work to keep them alive. Since they're in pots they must be watered faithfully. We have no outdoor water source in our condo so we must use pitchers. Another problem is that I'm running out of space and pots (and dirt! I'll miss them but now they will be able to grow freely. This was a farewell party, I guess. Patty Moren...

Monday, October 11, 2010. I keep sleeping late; went to bed at 9:30 pm., woke up at 8 am. I just lie in bed listening to the radio, NPR. Jimmy is downstairs at least by six and I am up here flat upon the bed at eight. I got up while he was out; two tortillas, crisped in the frying pan and slathered with jam - wild blueberries and cranberries from Maine - and rolled up like blini, coffee from Sumatra. The crossword and then the funnies. How do other people survive without the comics? Flies in the compost?
