Some Assembly Inspired

Sunday, June 7, 2015. The concept. HOA required a 5' setback before approving. 32 - 80lb bags of Quickrete. 4 - galvanized post anchors. Various 3/8" galvanized lag bolts, washers and nuts. 4 - 4x4x8 cedar posts. 10 - 2x6x12 cedar boards. Staked off with landscapers twine to mark footings and perimeter lines. I wish I would have thought of spray paint at this point. First few courses. We were leveling as we went, which added unnecessary fuss time. Temporarily screwed the beams into place. Some Assembly Inspired: Master Bedroom Paint

http://someassemblyinspired.blogspot.com/2014/08/master-bedroom-paint.html

Sunday, August 31, 2014. The first item up for bid is the master bedroom. Months ago, while the house was nothing more than a shell of framing, I had decided to paint an accent wall in my room that was inspired by a mosaic tile pattern I'd seen. With the help of my partner, Chad. A professional video game environment artist, we came up with the concept. Three of the colors are Behr. Medieval Forest, Scotland Road, and Mystic Sea. The last color is Ralph Lauren Silver Grey Metallic. Once I did though.

Some Assembly Inspired: Man Cave

http://someassemblyinspired.blogspot.com/2014/12/man-cave.html

Sunday, December 28, 2014. On Christmas eve, I lost patience and gave Chad his present early. Of course, some assembly was required, so the following pictures outline the steps we took to assemble his Sci-Fi Man Cave. We started with the blank slate that was our loft space. It had been an ad hoc storage room since we moved in last August. We knew what we wanted to do. After pinning a lot of ideas onto. We set out to tape off a feature wall to get an idea of scale to see how far-fetched our ideas were.

Some Assembly Inspired: Work Bench

http://someassemblyinspired.blogspot.com/2015/06/work-bench.html

Sunday, June 7, 2015. The plan was to set out to build this basic work bench. First, I precut all the pieces and laid them out. Next, I clamped the pieces, checked for square, drilled pilot holes and attached with 1/4" carriage bolts. Next was to install brackets that I was going to use to enhance the functionality of the bench, using this image of a Roll-Around Workbench. Next I installed the cross pieces and bolted them in. Pinned the tabletop down with a pneumatic nailer. View my complete profile.

A Yelp in the Dark: My Travel Kit

http://ayelpinthedark.blogspot.com/2016/12/my-travel-kit.html

Saturday, December 3, 2016. I've been redsigning what I travel with in anticipation of PaizoCon 2017. Yes, it's 6 months away but I like to be prepared and last year I packed way too much and hurt my back. I'd love to be this excited about a Pinnacle Con but they don't come up here. And with my home life being what it is, a 4 day break is a rare god-send. This holds a couple of mechanical pencils, a laminated initiative card which can also be used for tracking rounds, Pathfinder Condition Cards and Buff ...

A Yelp in the Dark: My Despair Shall Not Win.

http://ayelpinthedark.blogspot.com/2016/11/my-despair-shall-not-win.html

Thursday, November 10, 2016. My Despair Shall Not Win. Yes, my depression is kicking my creative butt right now. To say I am disappointed and fearful of our new president elect is putting things mildly. But I am not going to spew vindictive venom. There is enough of that on Facebook at the moment. So I'm going to take some time off and stare at pics of my Minion. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Products On DrivethruRPG. My Despair Shall Not Win. Part 2 - Vehicle Scales. A Yelp in the Dark: Damage OUCH! Part 2 - Vehicle Scales

http://ayelpinthedark.blogspot.com/2016/11/damage-ouch-part-2-vehicle-scales.html

Monday, November 7, 2016. Part 2 - Vehicle Scales. Okay so here is more math, but this is the only way I can find to make damages work at higher tiers. It also means I will be setting up a system where making vehicles is the same or similar as making characters. Vehicles have a Vigor die, like characters, and Toughness is calculated the same (Vigor/2 2). Then the scale modifier is added depending on the vehicle's scale. Small Vehicle (cars, planes, etc) 5. Medium Vehicles (tanks, starfighters, etc) 10.

A Yelp in the Dark: May 2016

http://ayelpinthedark.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 23, 2016. Repeat After Me. Play It RAW Before You Tinker. A) When calculating Toughness versus die type, there is no flat ratio. This is because of the potential for acing. The two easily identifiable benchmarks are 2/3s for d6 and 1/2 for d12. Example: a 3d6 weapon is at its sweet spot against a 12 Toughness (3x6 = 18 cut in 2/3s is 12). Whereas a a 3d12 weapon is at its sweet spot against an 18 Toughness (3x12 = 36/2 = 18). It's just not my cup of tea. In DTotSL, shields use the Powers rule...

Friday, December 16, 2016. More on Chases and Vehicle Combat. I've been delving more into Vehicle Chases and Combat, mainly because I want to keep them abstract and not need tabletop miniatures. I've done some personal hacks during game to keep things running F! But I want to codify my house rules so they aren't constantly changing in game (due to my forgetful nature). Here's what I have so far. As always, a draw of a club for an initiative card indicates an Obstacle that must be avoided with a driving r...

A Yelp in the Dark: August 2016

http://ayelpinthedark.blogspot.com/2016_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 25, 2016. Sci-Fi Minis - The Ugly Truth. I've been mulling how I am going to do Sci-Fi miniatures for a while. Here are the issues I have run into:. 1) If I make unique aliens, it will be impossible to find pre-made miniatures for them. 2) If I make my own figure flats for them, I am looking at an AWFUL amount of drawing. I am not overly keen on the idea, even if I make a photoshop file where I can mix and match outfits and hairstyles, etc like City of Heroes. But if there are any mini-m...

Some Assembly Required

Monday, May 2, 2011. Norwegian Easter Orange Cake. In the Los Angeles Times. Total time: 1 hour, 15 minutes plus cooling time. Servings: 10 to 16. 3/4 cup (1½ sticks) butter, softened. Grated zest of 1 orange. 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons orange juice, divided. 1 1/3 cups (5.7 ounces) flour (I made this twice, the first time with all-purpose flour and I thought it was dry, so I tried it again with cake flour and thought it was much better). 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder. 3/4 cup powdered sugar. Remove from...
