Enter your search terms. Thursday, November 29, 2012. February 20, 1986. February 20, 1986. Now THAT seems like such a long time ago. I was in 9. Grade, and that was my 15. The other day I found something. It was a birthday card. Ruth and Glenn Hicks had given it to me, and it was printed on parchment paper, and purported to be a "Happy Life Insurance Policy" and it listed all the reasons why I should celebrate and be merry for this birthday and for many more to come. I went out into the shop, where I wa...

Think in terms of a garden. You need sunlight. True. You need water. True. You need dirt. True, yet again. All of those things are unquestionably essential. But can you grow things with nothing but dirt, water, and sun? Then we go off and take a long summer's nap and await the crop? Will you go in with shovels to do the same?

Enter your search terms. Saturday, February 23, 2013. Fear and its nemesis. It is natural for all of us to experience fear. There are many fearful situations that either exist or potentially could exist in our world, in our daily routines. So how do we get beyond our crippling fear? Do we deny it? They say, "There is nothing to fear except fear itself." But who are they, and what do they know about me and my situation? So how can one deal with one's fears, one's insecurities? Objectively, I could see tha...

Arkansawyer: July 2011

Enter your search terms. Tuesday, July 26, 2011. I was thinking a little bit about the divisions in our world. Everyone talks about right and wrong as if they were polar opposites. In a binary world – there are only two options. Off, or on. Right, or left. Democrat, or Republican. Black, or white. For a long time, I lived in a gray world. Sure, there were lots of shades of that gray. But it was black, and white, and when you mix them, you get gray. What can it mean? Imagine a world where the politicians ...

Sunday, September 24, 2006. Coming To A PBS Station Near You! Saz Walking The Dog - My Vlogging Experiment. It's been a week of camera/video/computer/vlogging trouble as I tried to copy (once again) Claude at Blogging In Paris. Loading this short video took about an hour with my dialup connection speed. Once I copied the HTML code from YouTube. And pardon my "breathiness" and the "umms" as I had poop bags, cell phone and leash in one hand and camera in the other at the end of our hot. And as for the rest...

...Saz Secrets: My Piano Teacher
http://sazsecrets.blogspot.com/2006/09/my-piano-teacher.html
Wednesday, September 06, 2006. My mom had great hopes that one of her children would be able to play the piano adequately and I was her last best hope. I started lessons when I was about 7 years old and it was apparent to both Mrs. Winsor and me that I wasn't a prodigy nor would I be very good. What I loved about the lessons was listening to her talk about her life in Europe before the war. She attended school in Paris and played concerts there. I couldn't get enough of her stories. I think I had to play...

http://sazsecrets.blogspot.com/2006/09/meet-smokey.html
Saturday, September 02, 2006. My African Grey Smarty Pants. I was out with a small group of friends the other night telling stories about Smokey and realized "Smokey" stories tend to be good ice breakers at parties. People are always charmed by and interested in talking parrots. Then I thought not only are the stories great for awkward social moments but are a rich source of blogging material! At night when I feed the birds before bedtime he will finish his meal first and start quietly saying "good night...
