As I said, the main incentive of my trip was to see my friends. We could have met up anywhere in the world and I would have been happy. I didn’t really know what there was to see or do in Zaragoza, but we ended up discovering that the city has a lot of great things to offer. Santiago de Compostela is the capital city of Galicia and is the final destination of the famous pilgrimage the Camino de Santiago, walked each year by thousands of religious pilgrims and hiking enthusiasts alike. I made my pilgrimage (though, 100% by car) to Santiago in March 2014. In the north, it is still quite chilly in March and so this time of year sees fewer pilgrims than say, the summer, but there were still plenty around and plenty of things to see. We stayed at Hospederia San Martin Pinario.

Toledo, a municipality in central Spain situated on the banks of the Tajo river, is the capital city closest to Madrid. Just South of Madrid’s borders, Toledo is the capital of the autonomous community of Castilla La Mancha and the province of Toledo. It is a city with a lot of history and makes for a great day trip from Madrid. Once you’re inside the city, you’ll get the chance to check out lots of history and culture. Avila was the first city apart from Madrid that I visited when I arrived last year. For me, the most remarkable part of the town is that it was home to St. Teresa of Avila.
