The place and family records to about 1500. The Normans made Skipton the fortified capital of Craven and granted Somerscales and Beamsley to the Mauleverer family. The Mauleverer family (who did not always get on well together) dispersed the ownership of vast tracts of land belonging to Somerscales. One member of the family endowed Bolton priory whilst another supported Bridlington priory. The Summerscales family of today descend from the family that remained on the Bolton priory owned lands. Gail Macqueen has written to say:. My great grandmother was Hannah Summerscales, born 1 June 1849 to David Summerscales and Rebecca Tideswell. I thought you might like to know what happened to her and some of her siblings. Hannah arrived in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, as an assisted immigrant aboard the ship Queen of the North from Liverpool, with her sister Margaret, on 7 March 1868. She was aged 18; Margaret was 28. (Public Record Office, Victoria -. Unassisted shipping index, Fiche 273 Page 002).

The Uniting Church children and youth camp for grade 3 to year 9 run in the first week of the winter school holidays. Somers 2015 – 29th June to 3rd July. Registrations are closed for this years camp :(. However, the great thing about Somers is there is always next year! Registrations for 2016 will open early in the new year so stay posted.
