Welcome to the Somerset Township, a rural farming and residential community located in the heart of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Established 1782 as the Township of Summersett, the first settlers in Somerset Township were the families of Isaac Newkirk and William Colvin in 1777. On April 2, 1782, Somerset Township was created from parts of Fallowfield, Nottingham, Strabane, and Bethlehem Townships. The first principal villages were Vanceville, Eighty Four, Dunningsville and Kammerer.
