REFLECTIONS ON THE END OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. Wartime schoolboy, 1940 1945. Harold was a child living with his family near Langport during the war. He remembers the evacuees who were welcomed into the family home, including twin boys from Surrey. After the war the twins stayed in contact and often returned to Somerset. Maisie was born in 1936 and was living with her family in London when war broke out. She left London for Street when attacks by V1 Rockets began in the summer of 1944.

REFLECTIONS ON THE END OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. Brent Knoll, Somerset. Land Girl, Women’s Land Army, 1944 1950. Mary grew up in Weston-super-Mare. After joining the Woman’s Land Army she trained at Steanbow Farm in Pilton. Mary then worked at a farm in Watchfield near Highbridge where she milked cows and did general farm work, including tractor driving.
