There's a Blog in My Throat: July 2008

Sunday, July 27, 2008. James Woods is NO carcarian carcarius. Shark Week." One of my most favorite weeks ever, it's "The Hills" for armchair ichthyologists. (N.B.: I have never seen a single episode of "The Hills," a matter I truly mean to address in a future blog entry.). So there are only so many truly sensationalist attacks that "Shark Week" can focus on, and the other sad truth is that I'm already intimately acquainted with all of them. The 1916 Jersey Shore attacks? Posted by Meaghan at 7:48 PM.

Filmalog: May 2007
http://filmaloguer.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 31, 2007. Bande à part = Band of Outsiders (1964). Although I'm not sure what to make of what I saw, I liked it. It helped a bit to watch the "visual dictionary" featurette on the DVD afterwards, which pointed out a number of film and literary references that were lost on me and probably anyone else who wasn't a film student or a member of the original audiences. Not to suggest the film is in any way irrelevant. Au contraire! Of getting something as simple as that wrong seems ludicrous.

Monday, October 15, 2007. Cause that's what everyone looked like: constipated. which, come to think of it, is sort of ironic given the crappiness of the movie. Isn't writing a good set of instructions cheaper than hiring tech support staff? Anyway, finally, FINALLY. I threw in everything I could think of:. Filmalog: March 2007
http://filmaloguer.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 22, 2007. Farce of the Penguins (2006). Bob Saget, who's funny (and foul-mouthed). Now dontcha know, saw March of the Penguins. And decided he had to make a parody. So, with the help of lots of stock footage and lots of actor/comedian friends, he did. And although I thought March of the Penguins. Was good, it was certainly asking to be parodied once media and silly conservative types started praising the penguins' " family. Sunday, March 18, 2007. Huo Yuan Jia, aka Jet Li's Fearless (2006).

Filmalog: Summer Movie Splendor
http://filmaloguer.blogspot.com/2007/10/summer-movie-splendor.html
Friday, October 12, 2007. I won't bother making excuses (although there are plenty of good ones — moonlighting. For example) for the lack of updates over the summer. Here's a rundown, roughly in chronological order, of every movie I watched from mid-June to late September. Memoirs of a Geisha. 2005) rating: 4.0. 2003) rating: 9.0. Also great: Hope Davis as Joyce, and Judah Friedlander who played Toby the "nyerd.". 1967) rating: 10.0. So not only is The Graduate a great movie, but it represents sort of a ...

http://marshmallowsoups.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Observations and writings that seemingly have no connection, but also just might. Sunday, October 29, 2006. I better start searching the Internet for sun lamps and discount trips to Aruba. Posted by marshmallow soup at 10:37 AM. Tuesday, October 17, 2006. Berk's in Harvard Square. When I was a Massachusetts high school and college student I tended to favor fuzzy sweaters, patched jeans, and I must admit, accompanying fuzzy hair. I highly recommend taking a peek at both the current shoes and clothes.

Observations and writings that seemingly have no connection, but also just might. Sunday, January 07, 2007. It's been a long time since I have written here. It's a whole new year in fact- 2007. Take a bit of inertia, add a glob of job exhaustion, and then mix them both with a little fear. I'm back though, at least for a while. And you know what has inspired me to blog again? A stupid television commercial- a stupid television commercial for a breakfast cereal no less. I know I sound old and decrepit sayi...

Observations and writings that seemingly have no connection, but also just might. Sunday, July 30, 2006. Things I learned this weekend. Green Herons make the oddest mating call. It sounds like a foraging pig. My favorite italian ice flavor is lemon. I can't change it. Always was, always will be. I am happier and more satisfied when I read more and watch t.v. less. I actually enjoy the beach. Johnny Foodmaster is surprisingly calm on Sunday afternoons, especially compared to Whole Foods on Sundays. Every ...

Observations and writings that seemingly have no connection, but also just might. Sunday, March 26, 2006. He was exceedingly polite, mild mannered, and always very grateful if anyone ever bought one of his "street sheets." I was fascinated by him, and often tried to figure out his story. I discussed him with my friends and roommate, wondered what the ice cream shop owners thought of him, and even considered following him one evening to see where he went after he left his regular corner. So it was with so...

Filmalog: Grindhouse (2007)
http://filmaloguer.blogspot.com/2007/05/grindhouse-2007.html
Tuesday, May 8, 2007. Overall rating: 8.0. Could possibly be my favorite zombie movie after. Shaun of the Dead. Whereas the latter is a comedy with action,. Is an action movie with tongue-in-cheek comedy. For example, Cherry Darling's (Rose McGowan's) gun-leg is simultaneously super-badass and super-cheesy. The plot is irrelevant and utterly uncomplicated- zombies, mayhem, explosions- so I'll just list things I loved, in addition to the "leg.". Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals, The Rock. From Dusk Till Dawn.
