Despite the awesomeness of Katmai's caldera and Novarupta, if I had to pick a favorite place along our route, it would be the section from Katmai Pass to Observation Mountain. I had never seen any photos of this area, so it's odd combination of pumice, lava, and lush but spotty vegetation was constantly surprising. Mageik Creek and Trident Lava Flows.

Palmer has changed a lot over the last three decades but the natural beauty of the Matanuska Valley has remained. The mountains and glaciers inspired both my career choices and my lifestyle. Over the course of a just a few months I finished my thesis, graduated with my MS is Geophysics, climbed Denali with two incredible friends, married the love of my life, and moved to Seattle.

Just that little bit of color made the house feel so much warmer! The linoleum tile in the living room. Installing the hardwood flooring. The living room with new flooring. The river was a few inches lower in the morning and we had no problem crossing at the designated ford site. It was thigh-deep at the most. It was awesome to end our hike just a twenty minute drive from our house. We are lucky trails like this are right in our backyard. The blue moon at 6:45 this morning.
