Something Ivory: On Traveling With Friends
http://something-ivory.blogspot.com/2015/06/on-traveling-with-friends.html
Monday, June 15, 2015. On Traveling With Friends. I think most people would agree that traveling with friends is risky. We went to Japan with another married couple and we joked on the trip that we'd either love each other even more or hate each other by the end of it! They also live in Charlottesville so we did plenty of getting together to plan and chat about the trip which amplified the excitement and anticipation. On this general subject.). Not illegal in Japan! I think it's safe to say we solidified...
Something Ivory: Japanese Silk
http://something-ivory.blogspot.com/2015/06/japanese-silk.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2015. There was really only one thing that I would have been heartbroken to leave Japan without and that was a silk made-in-Japan kimono. Before the trip my mom and I both did a little research on the best place to find them and we decided that I didn't actually want a kimono at all–what I wanted was a yukata. There was no other yukata for me. This was the one. It made me feel elegant and lovely and isn't that the point of a luxury robe, how it makes you feel? The beauty of buying a p...

Friday, July 24, 2015. Life These Days, And Hello Again! This poor Something Ivory has gotten a bit of neglect these last few weeks but today is Friday! I always feel inspired on Fridays.) And I wanted to check in and post a little update. First of all, though I never thought I'd be one of the many writers/bloggers to ever say this, I think that Instagram. Thursday, January 29, 2015. What Would A Stranger Learn About You From Your Home. Have you ever thought about what a stranger could learn about you just from seeing the inside of your home? Here are my guesses on what they might notice in ours. From the wooden cross above our door, they would know we are believers. From a stray dust bunny, they would know that we are more interested in keeping things tidy than we are in keeping things spotless. From the eucalyptus branches hanging from the shower. What d...

Thursday, July 3, 2014. Reflections on five years of marriage. This Saturday will mark the fifth year of our marriage. Words cannot express the feelings that I have about this anniversary. On one hand, I can barely believe that we've been married this long (time seems to be passing so quickly). On the other hand, it feels like we've been together for so much longer (it's only been five years? I am blessed beyond measure. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monday, November 25, 2013. Links to this post. Tuesday, November 12, 2013. This photo was taken way back in the summer. With the current weather the way it is, it seems like the summer existed in another world. A bright, sizzling world where everything felt like it was melting. He said something to me that day. Well, he really didn't "say" anything at all. He just struck me as something special, that's all. A symbol of humanity, perhaps? I can't really say what made him seem so noteworthy at the time.

thin places: Why "Thin?"
http://thinplaces-erin.blogspot.com/p/why-thin.html
Celtic tradition says that earth and heaven are three feet apart, but in thin places, even closer. The “thin” in "thin places" refers to what I am sometimes aware of as a narrow boundary between artwork and spirituality. Here are some ways I see these worlds interplay. Therefore, the ardent lover of beauty, although receiving what is always visible as an image of what he desires, yet longs to be filled with the very stamp of the archetype.". Saint Gregory of Nyssa. Monday, June 30, 2014. Appreciating the small things. Just taking a moment from today to reflect on how thankful I am for some little things in life. More often than not, it's those still, small moments that bring the most joy. Despite my ongoing physical discomforts, I feel like my life is full of so many good things. I don't have the words to express my feelings but the feelings themselves are abundant. A basket full of root vegetables, squash and plantains. Small but good things. Links to this post.

Monday, August 10, 2015. The More Loving One. I've been slowly making my way through the most fascinating book called Daily Rituals: How Artists Work. Have you heard of it? The author chose 161 inspired and inspiring people from human history–writers, scientists, composers, poets, inventors–and did meticulous research on the habits that surrounded their work and gave structure (or lack of structure) to their days. Interesting, right? In the French countryside. Looking up at the stars, I know quite well.
