Somewhat Raucous Kitchen

Coast in what was once East Germany, and it gave me a thrill to be traveling on East German soil. I was even more pleased that the tour we took to Bad Doberan was on the territory of the Slavic tribes (the Wendish) who once inhabited that region. We visited the Doberan Minster. Somewhat Raucous Kitchen: March 2005

http://somewhatraucouskitchen.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html

A collection of silly essays often involving food, bicycling, and anxiety. Friday, March 25, 2005. Last weekend was, at long last, the final weekend of my community theatre play. Again I lied and lied and lied: "Yes, it's been fun." Okay, it. Fun to enhance my nun costume with a temporary forearm tattoo of a skull with the words "BORN BAD." That part was fun. Plus, we provided large crowds of people with some really good laughs, which is one of my favorite kinds of public service. Sunday, March 20, 2005.

Somewhat Raucous Kitchen: November 2004

http://somewhatraucouskitchen.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_archive.html

A collection of silly essays often involving food, bicycling, and anxiety. Monday, November 29, 2004. Hiking in Iowa is an uncertain enterprise, not for the easily deterred. There are usually surprises. (Occasionally there are no surprises, but that is rare enough to be surprising.). Nonplussed, I eventually gathered myself enough to respond, "Why, yes, it is sort of a prerequisite.". Indian Creek Nature Center has an absolutely wonderful little network of trails with an abundance of wildlife, but hikers...

Somewhat Raucous Kitchen: Glacier Travels

http://somewhatraucouskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/09/glacier-travels.html

A collection of silly essays often involving food, bicycling, and anxiety. Sunday, September 13, 2009. Cold air came in that night, so in the morning I needed my hiking clothes. Hidden Lake Overlook trail had a climb and a brief descent to a wooden viewing platform. Sometimes we were out of the wind, and it was comfortable. The viewing platform was the most exposed spot, and we could not remain there for long! Posted by Margo at 2:29 PM. Iowa, United States. View my complete profile. Day in the Badlands.

Somewhat Raucous Kitchen: December 2004

http://somewhatraucouskitchen.blogspot.com/2004_12_01_archive.html

A collection of silly essays often involving food, bicycling, and anxiety. Friday, December 31, 2004. It sure is pretty out here in the woods this time of year. The white ice of the lake backs up against the shore; white frost adorns the trees. Mom and I had to hold the tree in position while Dad wired it to one of the beams that support the roof, and then we'd step back, look it over, and readjust. Our family has quite a few Christmas tree stories. My parents' favorite is the time I pulled the tree ...

Somewhat Raucous Kitchen: Mixes

http://somewhatraucouskitchen.blogspot.com/2008/11/mixes.html

A collection of silly essays often involving food, bicycling, and anxiety. Saturday, November 08, 2008. I simply do not understand the popularity of pancake mixes. I know very few people who make pancakes from scratch, although pancakes are the easiest thing in the world and they're practically foolproof. Foolproof recipes are important on Saturday mornings. Posted by Margo at 8:24 AM. Yeah, mixes don't make any sense, esp when all they usually do is premix your dry ingredients (with pesticide laden, che...

Tex-Pat Diaries: April 2012

http://tex-pat.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Ravings and ramblings of an exited Texan. Monday, April 30, 2012. I can't stress it enough, the things I went through as a female budoka have nothing to do with the injuries, the injustices (changing in the broom closet because the men freaked out about my longline sport bra and bike shorts, which I politely wore under my clothes so I could change without disturbing anyone) the weirdness and stupid jokes, which, frankly, I was born and raised to turn back on anyone. Get better at those, get better at budo.

Tex-Pat Diaries: December 2011

http://tex-pat.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Ravings and ramblings of an exited Texan. Tuesday, December 20, 2011. This is not the mountaintop, and I am not the first to pioneer this direction. In any case, I was never interested in it, or anything to do with Zen, status, flatus, or any of the accompanying baggage. I am not here, to dance circles round the Sun. I am just here to Train. My soul is only rewarded by Shugyo, the simple fact of training which brings us all together in the holy communion of sweat and honest effort. The fact is, that ever...

Ravings and ramblings of an exited Texan. Thursday, April 12, 2012. I began, in the second largest state of the union. Try not to feel alone, especially if you are too eccentric to fit into its most eccentric city, Austin, Texas. Living on the outside of the outside, it was a relief to be in an actual foreign country. If it was true that the strongest, physically, should rule society, then let's just get a lot of orang-utans to run for office. It would make as much sense as the jocks running high sch...

Ravings and ramblings of an exited Texan. Wednesday, March 21, 2012. I am living in a generation of shame. Ashamed of our basic rites of human life. In order to make more of our selves, we must surrender to our selves. The most basic urge is to "re-create". The difference of modern human life, is the ability to regulate the consequence, which lies largely on the female of the human species, who must bear the burden of gestation. Who teaches children how to interact with others? A Slightly Raucous Kitchen.

Tex-Pat Diaries: May 2012

http://tex-pat.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Ravings and ramblings of an exited Texan. Thursday, May 10, 2012. So I finally got to go a little sword to sword with our dear teacher QC this past weekend. We had good fun, his great fantastic spirit against my kittenish attempts. At one point, teaching a bloody counter, he said "oh you like that one? And I was practically growling with combative ecstasy, oh yes, lots! And I think we began to understand one another. I'm a lucky budo bunny. Links to this post. Blessed by the masters. Ravings and ramblings of an exited Texan. Thursday, May 10, 2012. Blessed by the masters. The gift we Gaijin have, is the gift of shortness of time. We shake unto our bones, walking up to our teachers, asking for training. For my own self, I have had to be tremendously unconventional. I have had to walk through changes of life,. Changes of state and continent. I have stuck to it through and through,. I have never wavered, though. I have bitched and wailed. When we leave dear ones behind. Every one of you,.

Tex-Pat Diaries: July 2011

http://tex-pat.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Ravings and ramblings of an exited Texan. Wednesday, July 27, 2011. In my private, claustrophobic world, I am in the Bavarian woods, I am open and venturing under the sheltering skies of pines and spruces. I am finding Pfifferlinge, blueberries, cranberries, and stashing them in the freezer for future use. I am the beloved daughter of Bavaria, making use of her wares, I am protected and secure. The grandmothers and fathers of Bavaria, love me and protect me, I am doing their work. I love to hear the loon...

Somewhat Programmed - Digital media

Recently, advances in technology have seen the growth of virtual reality and incredibly immersive 360 video experiences. these new mediums tap into human/digital experiences in ways that continue to shape the Internet as a medium of social communication. Our desire for immediacy and connection is apparent. Image sharing continually remains the top functionality of social applications. Why? Because our images are more exciting, lively, and realistic than mere words on your device's screen. Bulimba Festiva...

Somewhat Related to Class

Somewhat Related to Class. Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Leadership is Everyone's Business. Leadership is everyone's business.". A statement that is conceptually hard to argue, yet widely unimplemented. It seems as though it cleanly and concisely provides a definition (of which there are obviously many) for leadership. Though it leaves a common- and logical- question unanswered: "If leadership is everyone's business, why does it need exclusive leaders? Leadership is everyone's business. Fisher College of ...

Random Ramblings of a Somewhat Reluctant Runner

Random Ramblings of a Somewhat Reluctant Runner. Tuesday, August 24, 2010. So this morning my friend and I ran two miles straight! It feels amazing. I can't believe that just about 7 weeks ago now I didn't think I'd make it 1/4 of the way around the track without dying. Funny because I really never thought I'd be at this point.where I could run but also where I kind of enjoyed it. Today I am grateful to be alive and to be so blessed. Priase God from whom all blessings flow! Let Your Voice Speak. So that'...
