On a recent field trip, one of the common cacti was in bloom and it is one of the most beautiful plants I’ve seen in this area. It’s hard to imagine that such defensive plants with needle-sharp spines could bloom such a delicate flower with almost translucent petals. It’s a bit breathtaking in such a harsh desert.
