TROUBLED STRIKER: September 2012
http://troubledstriker.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 5 September 2012. Sorry there's been so little action on here recently. Seems like everything happens in the same fortnight about this time of year, festivals, last-ever shows, birthdays. blah blah blah. Anyway, next weekend I am completely honoured to be reading at the CBTR/Faber Social. Stage at Festival No.6. I'll be co-hosting a 45 minute poetry slot with John Barlow, a fellow CBTR. Poet and I think it's going to be great, so hopefully see you there. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

One Man Sitting: August 2013
http://onemansitting.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Random thoughts for people with nothing better to read. The Book and other bits. Wednesday, 14 August 2013. Welcome back to the National Game. Wind forward some 31 years since the league cup became The Milk Cup, or 30 years since ITV screened Tottenham Hotspur v Nottingham Forest as the first live top flight game on TV, in an age where there was no need to add the word ‘Terrestrial’ before TV to make it clear what type of channel you were talking about, and it’s a very different world.

One Man Sitting: Everything Counts
http://onemansitting.blogspot.com/2014/03/everything-counts.html
Random thoughts for people with nothing better to read. The Book and other bits. Wednesday, 5 March 2014. So what competitive advantage have I lost in my absence? That's not to say I've had no readers. There have been visitors, and in fact there has been a shift in my audience. The majority of visitors in 2013 were from the United States and yet in the last month, two thirds of the traffic has come from Russia. Who'd have guessed it? Get ahead in business. Get yourself higher in search engine rankings.

TROUBLED STRIKER: What do They Know of Michael Johnson...
http://troubledstriker.blogspot.com/2013/01/what-do-they-know-of-michael-johnson.html
Wednesday, 16 January 2013. What do They Know of Michael Johnson. Perhaps it is an indictment of what football, or more pertinently footballers, have become that when I read about Michael Johnson in the press yesterday, about how he has "squandered" his career, his life, his gift (NO, NOT HIS GOD-GIVEN GIFT, FOR CRISSAKES! Would be a good start. Means that here was a kid who actually had. Why can we not take a more philosophical view? My point is not really about the player. I want journalists to stop pr...

TROUBLED STRIKER: The first day of the rest of our life...
http://troubledstriker.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-first-day-of-rest-of-our-life.html
Tuesday, 15 January 2013. The first day of the rest of our life. This is where so many people's reactions today appear confused and muddled. Firstly they are conflating commerce and culture. HMV was a huge, faceless corporate chain. It was Costa, Tesco, Superdrug. I can just about understand the nostalgia people feel about small, independent shops. I love book shops, comic shops, little craft shops and record shops. But they are just shops. SOME PUBS I LIKE. Ye Olde Reindeer Inn, Banbury.

Random thoughts for people with nothing better to read. The Book and other bits. Wednesday, 2 July 2014. Starring Michelle Collins and Keith Duffy. A short distance away, Trafalgar Studios are also producing a high quality bill of plays for discerning audiences who are looking for high quality productions of new or critically acclaimed works. The TV credits of actors mean nothing to the people that attend, they are not swayed by such shallow considerations. Or so we are led to believe. Of course, if I'm ...

Random thoughts for people with nothing better to read. The Book and other bits. Wednesday, 18 December 2013. Gibraltar joins UEFA – Nations quake. Except, hang on a minute, this is Gibraltar, a country with no professional football league, a ground that does not yet meet UEFA requirements for competitive fixtures, and no players who play in the top level of any major domestic league. Maybe we should tone down the hype, and run that first paragraph again. There’s something slightly cruel about it w...

Random thoughts for people with nothing better to read. The Book and other bits. Thursday, 21 November 2013. Talk about Pop Music – Please. A woman ‘earns’ the nickname Screwbo because she’s on a talent contest, is 36 and can sing, and because a 48 year old woman who could also sing ‘earned’ the nickname Subo when she appeared on a talent contest a few years go. To begin with Sam Bailey, our X Factor prison worker. What are the real similarities between her and Susan Boyle? The actual similarities come d...

Random thoughts for people with nothing better to read. The Book and other bits. Wednesday, 28 January 2015. Two Journeys on The Road to Wembley. 27th January 2015. Two teams reach a Wembley final. I am a fan of the one of them and at a train station with fans of the other shortly after the final whistle's have blown. What does this say about the satisfaction and excitement that the millions spent by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have brought to their supporters? On the smiles of Chelsea fans ...
