Reflections by Thea: January 2016

Saturday, January 16, 2016. Today, January 16, 2016, Pastor Saeed Abedini. And several other American detainees were released from Iranian captivity. A deal was cut between our country and Iran – a prisoner exchange – which is not the way I would have done it if I were making decisions, but I’m not and so be it. Have been petitioning and demanding his release for years. Or it may be something a Jewish carpenter did two millennia ago that people are still talking about today. He tends to recruit from the ...

Reflections by Thea: January 2017

Sunday, January 1, 2017. Tom Hanks's character urges Private Ryan, for whom others have given their lives in the eponymous 1998 film. But Private Ryan can't earn something he doesn't deserve, any more than my friend, Georg, can earn the gift he received from a drug that was supposed to make him more comfortable while dying, but had the unintended effect of eradicating the cancer that was killing him. Neither can I earn the kindness shown me by a stranger on New Years Eve 2016. I just didn't see you!

Reflections by Thea: Grinch Pinch
http://reflectionsbythea.blogspot.com/2016/12/grinch-pinch.html
Sunday, December 11, 2016. In this season of peace on earth and good will towards men, many joyfully lay. Down resentments and take hold of compassion. There’s just something about the lights and carols and festivities that beckon us to reach out to others and share the joy. Why, then, am I in the grip of the Grinch? Would that I were a Who. Turns into December 26. I have my baggage, you have yours, but the bottom line is we all have the “I” word: issues. To stay the course. With his betrothed and spurn ...

Reflections by Thea: May 2016
http://reflectionsbythea.blogspot.com/2016_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 15, 2016. These are the nicknames my nephews dreamed up for two kids their mother babysat when they were young. She ran a day care of sorts out of her home, which enabled her to earn a pay check while raising her own children. Which is what I'm tempted to do lately. I've been feeling a lot of angst over issues I can't control, and as a result, I'm butting into other people's business. I admit it - I'm a control freak, right up there with the title character of the old comic strip,. Literally,...

Saturday, December 24, 2016. 8220;Are You kidding me, Lord? The words form in my head before I can edit them. Even in the midst of holiday hoopla, I know I’m conversing with omnipotence; there’s a certain decorum to such encounters. I smile, realizing I'm also communing with omniscience. This is, after all, Christmas Eve, and I know the Almighty realizes this is a hugely busy day for those He came to die for. The reason I must. More thoughts arrive unbidden. Needed for today’s festivities. It w...She fol...

When We Build Fences of Regret | Ingrid Lochamire
https://ingridlochamire.wordpress.com/2014/11/13/when-we-build-fences-of-regret
Published on November 13, 2014. When We Build Fences of Regret. Written by Ingrid Lochamire. Who doesn’t regret something in their lives? You can’t be in this world, have any sort of history, and not have regret. Over choices you made. Or didn’t make. Over people you hurt. Or didn’t love enough. Over misunderstandings, missteps, mistakes. It’s tempting to hang onto the regret, to coddle the remorse we feel and believe that living with regret makes us a better person. Reflections by Thea: November 2016
http://reflectionsbythea.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 20, 2016. Anything But Old Maids. Some may consider Corrie ten Boom and her sister, Betsie, old maids. Corrie endured a broken heart in her youth when a man she had every reason to believe intended marriage chose another for his wife. Corrie turned to her father, Casper, for solace. He offered her the option of transforming her thwarted romantic love into love for God. Fortunately, she heeded his wise counsel, and humanity is richer for that. Links to this post.
