Composing postcards in Ghent. Then we talked about how we felt about our own city, how we wanted to create a composition that was reflecting that feeling properly. We thought and talked about how to tell a story with sound, how to use tension and release, how to use different colors of sound, about the importance of contrasts and the importance of silence. We all took the recorders home over the weekend so we had enough time to collect our favorite city sounds. Now it was finally the time to create!

In the projection room, we saw a film clip Sound of Noised, the short film is the story of six percussionists who enter an apartment break. Postcards from Mediterrània, Barceloneta! Here we are editing the recordings we made at school, at home and around our neighborhood and turning them into compositions! We hope you like our sonic postcards! Mysterious sounds in the Barceloneta neighborhood …. These are busy sonic days in the Barceloneta neighborhood! Our second session was quite exciting as we had just recieved a whole bunch of new MySounds from our friends in Belgium and France. At first we were busy for a while trying to guess where those misterious sounds were coming from. That wasn’t easy at all! We regret not having more time to dig deeper into the compositional process; with one hour, and focusing on the process, time flies! In any case I think we successfully accomplished an interesting composition, with a totally cool ending ;). Finally, we a...

Compact Sonic Postcards from Essen! The very last session on the project is over and we will definitely miss these meetings in the next weeks. It was so much fun. We fougth with audacity (sometime things got lost or simply our hands slipped away, and suddeny everything was gone). We decided to make them short but effectiv. That was too because we had so many short recordings. So here, dear folks from Palau Solità i Plegamans, are now our little sonic postcards for you. Hear what we have done! We loved th...

More from Scotland…. It’s taken me a little while to upload the last compositions and a few photos from the project at Portlethen Primary School. At the end of October, Pippa went back to visit Class P7 and they did some more excellent work. The whole group made a composition using the iSounds from Denmark. Have a listen below: I like how the meow sound keeps repeating and but sometime it has an echo or the pitch has changed! What do you like about this composition? Well here they are – 3 compositi...

Doctor Puigvert’s Sonic Postcards. And after quite some work we finished the postcards :). For the compositions we used keywords as habitable, unforgettable, fire, intense, extroverted, or fantastic. We worked in groups of two, and some took a naturalistic approach while others had quite a fun time with the effects menu. I am sure you will recognize each of them when you listen to the postcards. Please take a listen and comment! Visit the freesound pack for the rest of them. We have already started worki...
