Danger in Numbers | SophiaBoutilier's Blog
https://sophiaboutilier.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/danger-in-numbers
March 16, 2010, 9:20 am. 500 people just ran across the street at once. The road is seething with people. A quick moving current of humanity. I’m in Forodhani Park, the centre of Stone Town, Zanzibar. Early this afternoon the park had hosted the World Cup. The famous golden chalice had been making its way through African cities on it’s way to South Africa where the games will take place. Mwizi is the Kiswahili word for thief. A report released last summer identified the Kenyan Police Force as the most co...

A birthday wish | SophiaBoutilier's Blog
https://sophiaboutilier.wordpress.com/2009/10/05/a-birthday-wish
October 5, 2009, 1:45 pm. Friday October 2nd was my 23rd birthday. I was endlessly fortunate to receive cards and best wishes (not to mention cake! From so many of my loved ones. I know I’m a little old to be making a wish list, but, a humble request. An unexpected casualty of drought is education. As families move and resources are diverted to meet immediate needs, the challenge of education is magnified. October 2009 is the first ever SOMA Month. Volunteers and friends of Africa SOMA are hosting ev...

At Three, You’re Free. March 16, 2010, 9:16 am. One of my happy tasks at my current job is to visit community preschools. My interest in education was, and still is in some ways, at the secondary level with teenage students. Nevertheless, my introduction to early childhood programmes at MO, has been fascinating. When do they (we) realise they no longer think as before? Or can this realisation really occur if the previous way of thinking can not be captured, like grasping at wisps of a dream? In 5 minutes...

A Shared Dislike | A Mazungu's Journey Blog
https://amazungujourney.wordpress.com/2009/10/06/a-shared-dislike
A Mazungu's Journey Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. October 6, 2009. At school, I disliked most being caned. I lived very far away, sometimes I was late, and when I was late I was beaten. I disliked most when children were beaten, I don’t like children being beaten. The last two weeks I have monitored and evaluated several teacher training workshops on literacy methods, instructional material making, guidance and counseling and child’s rights and responsibilities. While I was thinking over my pr...

A Mazungu's Journey Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. September 22, 2009. A place to call Home. The same day I arrived in London. A mere eight-hour stopover allowed for me to view Buckingham palace! Now I sit in Johannesburg terminal waiting for my flight to return me to my current home in Kampala. 43 hours of transit and several different cities. Each place its own unique treasure. Some more explicitly beautiful than others, but each city a gem. Laquo; A New Route. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

A view from the grassroots. The Time Traveler’s Wife. And going to sleep. Occasionally, the other interns and I get together to go out for dinner but we’re usually too exhausted to do anything. Oh, but we have started a little “Guys/Girls Night” tradition where me and Bart (the other male intern) hang/chill out while the girls (Sarah and Ninoska) do their thing (usually involves watching Grey’s Anatomy). Other weekend activities involve going into town and usually doing some shopping. Weekends are us...

A view from the grassroots. Year in review: What did I ship in 2010? In the spirit of sharing what I was able to “ship” (i.e. get my work “out there”), here’s a list of things from 2010:. 8211; Completed my 8 month Fellowship with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada. Survived (and occasionally thrived) my experience with a microfinance bank in Pemba, Mozambique. 8211; Had an excellent summer back in Canada spending time with friends and family. OK, so not all of the things that I listed up there were things t...

Wedding! | A view from the grassroots
https://pnak.wordpress.com/2009/08/23/wedding
A view from the grassroots. Last week, I had the opportunity to go to one of my co-workers wedding. It was a really cool experience because it was held in a traditional Muslim style and I’d never been to a Muslim wedding before. I believe this was the mosques mullah opening the mens portion of the wedding ceremony. Ismael, the groom, is sitting in the middle. Ismael answering a series of questions (Im thinking they were wedding vows or something). The bride waiting for the groom. Unveiling of the bride.

9 LBS 2 OUNCES. Hello, My name is. I was born on September 4th, 2007 in Phoenix Arizona and my parents are Joachim and Michelle Bosch. I am excited to be here in this world with my parents and they are excited to have me. Of course, who wouldn’t, just look at me. Currently I am still in the hospital with my mom. They need to do some routine checks. But on Friday I am coming home where they have already everything prepared for me. Now here are some pictures. Of me just after my arrival in this world.
