Another Rainy Day in the Lofoten Islands. The view a few steps from the cabin. A 5-minute exposure of the view across the fjord to Olstind. We finally arrived at our wonderful rorbu (old fisherman's cabin) in Ham nøy yesterday, on Mosken. Øya, the southernmost of the main islands of the Lofotens in Arctic Norway (there are a couple out to sea to the south-west). The view, as expected, is spectacular, looking directly across the fjord from two corner windows to Olstind, an impresssive pointy peak, and.

Back to Japan - Day 2: Osaka. I hadn't visited Osaka on either of my two previous trips, but hubby had heard that there was a good craft beer scene there, not to mention some excellent food, so we scheduled a night there. We took a subway up to Hiroshima's main train station and activated our JR Rail Passes and booked seats on the next Shinkansen (bullet train). Once we'd dropped our bags off in the room we headed out to find our second dose of okonomiyaki. Stalls, often surrounded by an audience watchin...

Capturing the Northern Lights. ISO 2500, f/2.8, 25 secs. I learned a fair bit from various other blogs that I dipped in and out of, so thought I'd reciprocate and give a few basic tips - from useful equipment to useful techniques. 3) A camera with good low-light capability. ISO 2000, f/8, 8 secs. 4) A fast wide-angle lens. And was extremely glad that I did! If you're near a road a car may drive past and do this for you. ISO 1600, f/2.8, 20 secs (with car driving past). Batteries wear out more quickly in ...

30 Day Photo Challenge - Week 1. I read about a 30 day photo challenge. Suggested by Haje Jan Kamps of photocritic.org, and decided to give it a go! Day 7 - Upside Down. In the River Thames, of the dog lying on his back. But everything I tried today looked plain odd. Finally I came across some stark winter trees along the edge of Tooting Bec Common in South London, nicely silhouetted against the moody skies. I turned the camera the wrong way up and came up with this. Day 6 - Tell a Story. Day 4 - Friends.

My Favourite Photographic Moments of 2014. After the scrum had gone - Mesa Arch in Utah's Canyonlands National Park. As a result there's quite a few highlights, which I've shown in chronological order. Iceland - March 2014. I travelled to the east of the country for the first time this year, as well as some my my regular favourites ( Jökulsárlón. Vik, Reykjavik). I also managed to see some decent northern lights for a change. Reflections near Stokksnes, south-east Iceland. The golden hour at. Was between...

South and Central America. Friday, July 26, 2013. St Mary Falls - photo from Glacier National Park. Is one of my favorite places I've been. The sweeping vistas. There are truly stunning. As everyone is well aware, but the intimate. Are no less stunning. It seems like the majority of the streams. That would qualify as national treasures in their own right, if they were anywhere less spectacular. Pictured here, is one such example. The canyon. Banks It is them - the sparse flowers and stunted evergreen.

Louise paints and more. Wednesday, 14 October 2015. Looking close and seeing far. Looking close and seeing far, watercolour. louise paints and more: In a few brush strokes
https://louisepaints.blogspot.com/2015/11/in-few-brush-strokes.html
Louise paints and more. Tuesday, 3 November 2015. In a few brush strokes. November 03, 2015. Aweso...
louise paints and more: Never doubt (?)
https://louisepaints.blogspot.com/2015/11/never-doubt.html
Louise paints and more. Friday, 6 November 2015. Eyes closed, mixed media on paper (watercolour, ink). Great drawing suggesting softly the quintessence of womanhood. Dat was mooi gezegd en bedacht ik me dat je niet moet twijfelen aan je eigen werk.

Back to Japan - Day 4: Kyoto - Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, Arashiyama and Gion. We continued around the lake, past the temple and through the gardens to the exit, past a few more temple buildings, and of course some vending machines. I stopped to photograph people who'd stopped to take photographs of photographs of the complex in winter! People threw money at a shrine, presumably for good luck, although it looked more like target practice. In the food court in the basement of the station we found a brightly-li...
