What is a “zoopolis”? April 28, 2015. Yep, all the alliterations for this one. It earned them. This series titled “what am I going to wear with this skirt? 8221; Thought one: stretch red silk blouse, bought 8 years ago. Conclusion one: Oh, I gained some weight. It doesn’t really fit anymore. But then I started flipping through all of the spring fashion magazines and tearing out a lot of inspiration shots of short suede a-line skirts. First thought: I wonder where I could find an a-line skirt pattern?

What is a “zoopolis”? What is a “zoopolis”? Apparently, Zoopolis is now the name of a book on animal rights and political theory. But that is not what this blog is about. The name came from one of Richard Louv’s books on the disconnection between people and the rest of nature in modern civilization; he argues that we need to incorporate nature into our most urban areas, a city idea he calls the. Of nature, and makes us think that whatever we do in our cities is somehow insulated from affecting nature.

What is a “zoopolis”? Now it’s a pleated pencil skirt (Burda Pleat Pencil Skirt 03/2015). May 5, 2015. This was a pattern. That did not want to be a pleated pencil skirt at all. What it wanted to be, based on the skirt as first sewn up, was a hot air balloon. But this would have required me to install hot air jets on top of my feet which, in addition to sounding quite painful, I’m sure would also have been much too expensive. So I cut it down. I’m not sure if I totally understood the zipper instruc...

What is a “zoopolis”? Me Made May Recap the First! May 7, 2015. All this week I have worn clothing I made myself. Even pajamas! Which you don’t get to see, sorry. Day One: Butterick t-shirt, Jalie jeans. Day two: Vogue shirt, same Jalie jeans. You can maybe tell that I am not fussed about avoiding repeats. Day three: me in a very sloppy Renfew, Frances in my first Ottobre t-shirt pattern. Day 4: my tea-length Moneta, with a lovely panel print. Day six: Same Butterick shirt, StyleArc Jasmine pants. Leave ...

What is a “zoopolis”? A post that’s become a Page: My master list of everything I want to make “someday”:. The Colette Meringue skirt. Also on the Someday Shelf is the Taffy Blouse. And one of the dresses, also from the book, but they are farther down the list–spring/summer). A short-sleeved crochet sweater in Squishy. That looks a bit like the Taffy Blouse. ( Done. But not very well, sadly). A Farmer’s Wife quil. A quilt for my room. Something bright and floral. Fleece pajamas for Frances. (Done! Comfy ...

What is a “zoopolis”? Group Think: When Two Heads are Worse than One (Science and Sewing, in one post at last! April 22, 2015. It’s my untested belief that expertise in any technical field will result in a near-total loss of respect for journalism. And you end up with a voting public almost completely muddled on key issues because they’ve come to the completely totally 100% incontrovertibly WRONG conclusion that there are two sides. None of this did away with the equality bias. Aside: Climate change is a...

What is a “zoopolis”? Moneta Again (Dancing Dress Part 3). August 16, 2016. Cool printed fabrics are hard to pass up, for two reasons. One: they are cool. That border print–right? When am I going to see that again? And now this very large floral repeat. In a lovely, beautifully soft and cool bamboo jersey. Two: Because simple patterns show off fussy fabrics best, making them up is a cinch and yet looks very impressive. Behold Yet Another Moneta. Smiling again. It is clearly the end times. What is a “zoopolis”? How To Be 40: The first in an ongoing (and sporadic) series. April 30, 2015. Dear Readers, I have an apology to make. It’s recently come to my attention that I have not turned 40 properly. Nor, apparently, was I able to conduct my 30s appropriately. Can you ever forgive me? I’ve been wearing the wrong colours all along! I guess I just didn’t quite manage Fabulous. Still, there it is, in black and white (and pink): In your thirties? And I didn’t. I just … didn’t! I didn’t know! The b...
