Off the Record: Adult Peer Pressure
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2010/10/adult-peer-pressure.html
Thursday, October 21, 2010. We all remember those bygone years of yesteryear when our loving parents warned us of the inherent dangers of "peer pressure." They would recite modern proverbs about friends jumping off bridges, and others that I can't recall, just to engrain in us this understanding: Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean that we have to do it. Oh no it just changes focus, and suddenly becomes acceptable. Well I cry foul, sir. The second example isn't unlike the first. At a ...

Off the Record: January 2013
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 9, 2013. A Tale of Old Wives. Sadly, the title for this post has little to do with the actual content. I just liked it, and didn't know if there would ever be an opportunity to use it in a relevant manner. And so I decided to throw caution to the wind, and here we are. Or possibly an early ulcer. His treatment: medicine, which, I discovered sometime later, costs over $200 for a 30 day supply. See how I tied that in there? I'm beginning to think the makers of Nexium are onto something.

Off the Record: A Lamentation for Krispy Kreme
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2010/11/lamentation-for-krispy-kreme.html
Friday, November 5, 2010. A Lamentation for Krispy Kreme. I long for doughnuts. Yet I find only crap in doughnut's clothing. To whom will I go to satisfy this longing in my soul. The days have turned to night, and the nights have turned to winter, and the winter has turned to wastelands where no one dares to cry. Alas, the tears are all they have left. I see no glowing neon-light-laden visage to guide me. My ways seem lost, and my waist has withered. When will this nightmare end? Oh, Krispy Kreme! Novemb...

Off the Record: September 2011
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 11, 2011. The Shame of a State. I'm breaking blog silence for one reason, and one reason alone, and that's to set the record straight. Let me go on. The record to say that I'm currently laying out a "season" of blog posts which should include at least one post per week starting in late September. This post is not. Part of that season. You might call it a preseason teaser. I just call it venting. There also seems to be an attitude among many - some might call recent. That's probably beca...

Off the Record: May 2011
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 30, 2011. In honor of our day of memorial, I thought I'd offer a repost of some of my favorite posts that honor those who've served our country. Some may make you laugh, others might evoke tears. Still others will seem a complete waste of time. Regardless, I hope you enjoy a stroll through the archives in this special highlight post. May the Force be with you.so say we all. My Brief Life In the Navy. Feathers May Be Ruffled Upon Reading. If I've said it once, I've said too much. With that beh...

Off the Record: Caffeine Detox
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2010/11/caffeine-detox.html
Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Settle in with me, if you please, as I recount some of the darkest days of my life ( in the past month. Before you accept this offer, however, you need to prepare yourself to be enthralled by a chilling tale of woes and sorrows - which happens to rhyme (note to self: write a song called "Woes and Sorrows". sounds like a country song). Most. Of what you're about to read is absolutely true, with only liberal. Amounts of creative embellishment. No big deal. I was feeling pret...

Off the Record: The Art of Dismantling a Dream
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-art-of-dismantling-dream.html
Wednesday, January 2, 2013. The Art of Dismantling a Dream. I recently developed a whole new respect for critics (or those who fancy themselves such) shortly after watching what I can only describe as pure-100-proof-face-melting-teeth-gnashing-tear-inducing-I-believe-in-unicorns-magical-awesomeness. The movie of which I speak is, of course, Les Miserables. In French. The movie, in my opinion, was a masterpiece on every level. But, of course, I'm no critic. What do I know? Now I've said too much. Once in ...

http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 25, 2012. Reflections On New York. When a friend of ours was organizing a travel group to New York City, we signed up with aggressive abandon. For a small fee we could ride a charter bus into the city, spend the day seeing the sights, and then ride back to the rural life in sweet blissful euphoria. To bring this trip full circle, we will drive another six-and-a-half hours to Indianapolis where our children are being boarded, then two hours home to Fort Wayne on Monday evening. Driving th...

Off the Record: You're Welcome
http://eofftherecord.blogspot.com/2013/01/youre-welcome.html
Sunday, January 6, 2013. If you've ever been slighted a proper thank you. From me, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest apologies. It's not at all that I didn't appreciate the gift, or the generous notion behind it. It's just that.well, you see.I'm lazy. And, sadly, I never learned to read. Everything I've told you up to this point is absolutely true (except for the reading part). The smiling faces of the people haunt my dreams. Though we didn't give you anything, we felt your gra...
