Each year, Jeannette Rankin Fund awards scholarships to low-income women, ages 35 and older, who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents pursuing an undergraduate education at an accredited college or university in the United States. The 2016-2017 application cycle is now closed and will reopen for the 2017-2018 school year in November 2016. Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund honors the name and legacy of an American woman of incredible spirit and determination by providing much needed aid to women with the same attributes. Jeannette Rankin was a proponent of womens rights and was the first woman to be elected to the United States Congress in 1916. In 1978, the Jeannette Rankin Foundation awarded one scholarship in the amount of $500. Since that time, JRF has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to 793 women.
