Nick came to UML to pursue his interest in the technology of recorded music. At UML, Nick s principle instrument is percussion, and he is a member of the University Wind Ensemble. Sound absorption, reflection and diffusion strategies in the design of the room make for a complicated recording space. Variable acoustics: the side wall panels may be opened or closed (or anywhere in between) to adjust the acoustic behavior of the side walls. The engineer needs to know how these elements of the room influence the sound qualities of the tracks being recorded.
