Rick and Jen's Blog. Monday, December 10, 2012. My goal of doing a weekly post hasn't quite happened yet, but here's an update for early December. We had 24" of snow in November with rain in between to pretty much clear the snow off. It started snowing on the 1st and we are now at 42" for the month of December. Rick and Jen's Blog. Thursday, May 2, 2013. Every spring, we wait for the arrival of our Rufus Hummingbirds. These birds migrate all the way from Mexico and Florida. We have more Rufus Hummingbirds working the feeders on the deck this year than we have ever had before! We saw our first hummingbird on April 4. He buzzed the window where the feeder usually is, so we dropped everything and made up some food and put the feeder out as soon as we could! Feeding on a snowy morning. Topping up before bed time!

Although some people told us that you can't train a wild mink, we had a lot of time on our hands this winter, so thought we'd give it a shot. The large one we named Marvin. The other one we worry about because she has mange and it seems to be getting worse. Her name is Marge the Mangy Mink. Marvin down on the dock. We were told they wouldn't fetch, but we found it depends on what you throw for them.

A lot of people have asked about our hydro-electric system here at the lodge, so I thought I'd put some pictures here on the blog. This is the famous hydro intake- a small dam makes a pool of water (on the right side of the photo) and you can see the algae-covered (green on white) pipe coming out at the bottom of the pool.
