I am currently in the thick of a new chamber opera based on Helen Humphrey’s novel. Set in a small town with crumbling industry and high unemployment, it features a ragtag group of individuals who lost their beloved dog. The novel explores the relationship, harmonious or opposing, between wilderness and domestication in the wider world and in our own psyche.

Seeing or hearing something new, or visiting someplace for the first time, can activate synapses that make us feel good on some level. I was reminded of this after hearing the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). Perform an intimate chamber concert at the Theatre Centre on Queen Street West. To hear the concert. Exist the music-presenting organization had brought ICE to Toronto for a related performance.
