Thursday, May 1, 2008. Where in the World? Well due to remote locations, rising internet costs and most of all just a bout of lazyness I haven´t written a thing in a long time! I do apologize and I assure you I am not dead. Have been some to some wonderful places since I last wrote, the best on the whole trip in fact. Soo, here´s my update. Plan to go to Volcano Poas in the morning, then Mike leaves for home on May 3. Wow, our time is almost up. Post more pictures soon- See you all then. And the car drag...

Central American Meanderings: February 2008

http://www.southamericanmeanderings.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 29, 2008. The ruins of Monte Albán really were amazing to see. We went on a nice day that wasn´t too sunny or we would have roasted for sure! The ruins aren´t spectacular like those of Macchu Pichu, but they are pretty worthwhile. They overlook the city of Oaxaca, way up on a hill. Mike, resting in the shade of the ruins. Marissa, posing on the top steps of a large staircase. Tuesday, February 26, 2008. So we have been in Oaxaca for some days now. It has been nice and we are taking o...

Central American Meanderings: Puebla, Mexico

http://www.southamericanmeanderings.blogspot.com/2008/02/puebla-mexico.html

Monday, February 25, 2008. We made the 2 hour trip to Puebla the same night after we had visited Xochimilco. Puebla is a large, colonial city that is affluent and full of culture. It has a beautiful fountain in front of large church in the heart of the zocalo. Mike and I began our visit by trekking to the zocalo from our hostel for amazing tortas. We ended a nice evening being serenaded by Mexican ballads while eating churros and drinking hot chocolates. More on this later! On Sunday we went to the Casa ...

Central American Meanderings: Vamos a la Playa

http://www.southamericanmeanderings.blogspot.com/2008/03/vamos-la-playa.html

Monday, March 3, 2008. Vamos a la Playa. Sunset over the break at Puerto Escondido's Zicatela beach. We will leave however, maybe in another day or so. One guy staying at our place said he planned to stay two days, but that was 8 days ago.I saw him again this morning. The beach at Mazunte, to walk from end to end it took about 10 minutes. Very beautiful place-the scene around it was just not my style. Like Ceviche.mmmmm. This made me sick. But it was worth eating anyway. Please take me here! Hey guys&#46...

Chasing The Golden Quetzal: Island Hopping

http://goldenquetzal.blogspot.com/2008/04/island-hopping.html

Chasing The Golden Quetzal. To go beyond the ordinary. We have been on the island Roatan, off the coast of Honduras, for the past week getting our PADI scuba diving certification. We got down to 60ft in the clear warm Caribbean waters. Tons of colorful fish, corals and sea plants. Had a chance to swim with turtles, nurse sharks, aggressive eels, and sting rays. The posts have been slim lately, sorry about that, but we have been on the go and in places that do not have good access to internet. Subscribe t...

Chasing The Golden Quetzal: April 2008

http://goldenquetzal.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Chasing The Golden Quetzal. To go beyond the ordinary. Light at the end of the tunnel. Granada is special. But you wouldn't know from being there that Nicaragua is second to Haiti as the poorest country in Central America. The city rests beside Lake Nicaragua, which is huge, the biggest in Central America. We decided we needed more beach time so we shot over to the surf capital of Nicaragua, San Juan del Sur. While we're here I decided to take surf lessons, something I've never done before. The trip from...

Chasing The Golden Quetzal: Highlands

http://goldenquetzal.blogspot.com/2008/04/highlands.html

Chasing The Golden Quetzal. To go beyond the ordinary. We have been moving around quickly and often in places with no Internet, which doesn´t help with the blog updating. We leave Friday April 4, on a boat and will not have a chance to update for at least that time. So I am trying to squeeze out this update. After spending a night at Lake Atitlan, we make a series of van and bus transfers and finally get on the right track (transportation is a freaking nightmare in Guatemala) to Nebaj. Typical house....

Chasing The Golden Quetzal: Last but not least

http://goldenquetzal.blogspot.com/2008/05/last-but-not-least.html

Chasing The Golden Quetzal. To go beyond the ordinary. Last but not least. The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica was everything that I wanted. The general vibe of that region is very ¨Rasta-Man¨ like. The town of Cahuita is slow and mellow with Reggae music coming from the restaurants and stores. The food was excellent, the first night I had smoked chicken with a jerk sauce. Had to have been the spiciest food I´ve ever tasted. Posted by Mike M. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Last but not least.

Chasing The Golden Quetzal: Lowlands

http://goldenquetzal.blogspot.com/2008/04/lowlands.html

Chasing The Golden Quetzal. To go beyond the ordinary. Last half of the rushed update. After a long and bumpy ride from Nebaj (they were literally building the road as we were driving on it), we arrived in the city of Lanquin to swim in the turquoise pools of Semuc Champey. Surrounded by jungle, this area is known for it´s limestone rock formations, caves, and idyllic pools. We opted to let our Hostal do the dirty work for us and went on a day tour that included caving, river tubing, and Semuc Champey.

We got up at 6am this morning and walked around the streets looking at the Alfombres (explanation in previous post). People start making the Alfombres around 10pm and worked through the night and into the morning. As the processions make their way through the streets they will walk over the Alfombres and destroy them. Another tr...

Chasing The Golden Quetzal: February 2008

http://goldenquetzal.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Chasing The Golden Quetzal. To go beyond the ordinary. The bus ride from Puebla to Oaxaca was thankfully non-eventful and relaxing. Oaxaca is a midsize city in the center of a valley, agriculturally fertile and rich in history. At one time it was the center of the Zapotec civilization and was a hub for trade and culture, as it still is today. People from all parts of the valley come to Oaxaca to sell their goods. Click to enlarge photo:. One of many stalls handing out aguas frescas. Ruins of Monte Alban&...

Travelling to South America

Friday, December 21, 2007. An Authentic South American Experience I Had In Argentina. The street was filled with dancers and magnificently decorated carts carrying more dancers with peacock feathers all around them, and musical bands following them, drumming bands, trumpet bands, it was truly a marvelous celebration of colors and sounds. No cars were of course allowed in the street, and Avenida Corrientes. Came alive with an endless stream of festivities, color, and music. 3 people dancing in the rain in...

South american adventure

Thursday, October 15, 2009. Floripa, Iguacu and Argentina. I had the front half which I was body boarding into shore with and the back of it dragging behind attached to my ankle. We both returned to the scooter hire shop on one smashed up bike and and a rough address for where the other bike could be. They told us they would send us the bill soon! After travelling for about 24 hours, via Sao Paolo, I am now back home. My next stop. Manchester. Monday, September 14, 2009. Bogota again and Brazil. Olly, Ad...

The Daily Life of Kaitlin at Km.38. Pucallpa, Peru 2007-2008. Monday, March 31, 2008. Just Some Fun Pictures. Through this past month we have had an unexpected baby that we have taken on. His name is Hector Daniel. He is four months old and just over five pounds. He was discovered at a church at Yerbos Buenas. The baby was suffering from severe malnutrition and wouldn’t last much longer. Even how to smile. He is now out of the hospital again but is still having problems that are caused by unknown reasons...
