The chronicles of my beekeeping misadventures. Bee on my privet. Thursday, August 1, 2013. No, this is not a horror film on late night Syfi channel. Though I bet they will make one eventually. Zombees are bees that have been parasitized by the Zombie Fly,. The fly injects it's eggs into the abdomen of the honey bee where they develop over the next 5-14 days then the maggots crawl out of the hapless bee's body. Fun, huh? These are not pictures of Zombees. These are pictures I just needed a link to lol.

I ordered what I thought was two nucs back in November 2014. That would have made a perfect replacement pair for the colonies I lost. Apparently I said three, not two. So, no sweat now I have seven colonies. That is only one more that I expected. So, with that in mind, until next time. March 29, 2015 at 7:41 PM. Bring on the chill.

So I took a look at the herbs and such I had around and added rosemary and mint. The green tea is meant to help reduce puffy eyes and wrinkles. Cinnamon was added to be a mild exfoliate. Soap, Salve, and Saurkraut. Tuesday, May 14, 2013. This so far is my favorite soap, and everyone who's tried it has really enjoyed it too. What I made has very few ingredient. It was just a way for me to begin making soap without too many complications. 8 oz Coconut Oil. 7 oz Coconut Milk. Put oils in a crock pot or double boiler and allow to melt. Heat it to 90-120 degrees F. Let the lye and liquid mix to cool to the same temperature you have your oil, whatever that is somewhere between 90-120 degrees F.

This is almost exactly like the coconut milk soap, but I added oatmeal and honey, so I adjusted the liquid just a little to account for the honey. Soap, Salve, and Saurkraut. Fermenting food is a way to preserve it some, and you end up getting a beneficial bacteria called - lactobacillus acidophilus. Most commonly we're used to hearing about this bacteria being in yogurt, and that's the first recipe I'll share here. 1/4 cup powdered milk (optional, used as a thickener). 2-3 tbsp starter (greek yogurt, or whey, something with the lactobacillus acidophilus in it). Soap, Salve, and Saurkraut. Thursday, May 30, 2013. Milk soaps in general will moisturize the skin, but there is a slight difference in coconut milk vs. other milks (such as goat milk). Coconut, in general, gives soap a more bubbly lather. Goat's milk will give a more creamy lather. I like having both soaps here in case there is someone that has a specific preference for one or the other. 8 oz Coconut Oil. 4 oz Sunflower Oil. 5 oz Goat Milk.
