Southern Belle

Monday, January 2, 2017. Skipper’s Notes: Milestones. First Trip to Ft. Lauderdale. A new year begins as we welcome 2017 while in the comforts of our “normal house” and prepare for our return to Belle. Waiting patiently for us in the low country. It’s traditionally a time for reflection and resolution, so I thought I would jot down several of our special moments and accomplishments experienced over the past 14 years. Crossing the Gulf Stream has to be at, or near, the top of the list. Before long we rais...

Southern Belle: May 2015

http://southernbelle2012.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 25, 2015. Vero Beach – Heading North. April 14, 2015. Bill and I have decided that the two hardest places to leave on a cruise are St. Augustine and Vero Beach. We have always experienced weather holds in these two locations and fortunately, these two places are favorite stops. Part of the leaving problem is looking for a four day weather window with two extremely long days and shoaling issues on the ICW. We fill the time waiting with boat maintenance, beach walks, and beautiful sunsets.

Southern Belle: It's That Time Again

http://southernbelle2012.blogspot.com/2016/03/its-that-time-again.html

Monday, March 21, 2016. It's That Time Again. Friday, February 26, 2016. It is hard to believe the time has come to start a new adventure on Belle. We arrived at St. Simons loaded with three seasons of clothes, food for three months to add to stored provisions, and our dock friends ready to celebrate our journey. The weather was beautiful, and the extended forecast looked like a perfect day to leave on Sunday. Bill and I moved Belle. To the T-Dock on Saturday for final preparation. Bill noted, as we trie...

Southern Belle: December 2015

http://southernbelle2012.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 4, 2015. Thanksgiving on St. Simons. Winter has come to the Low Country, and it’s time to complete our prep work and begin provisioning Belle. For her next spring cruise. It seems as if we just returned from a most successful cruise down the coast to Ft. Lauderdale, but we’ve been quite busy getting Belle. Ready for her next adventure. Our girl will turn 13 in a few months and due to our constant care and repair/replace she’s in better shape than she’s ever been. Sleeping on the hook req...

Southern Belle: October 2012

http://southernbelle2012.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 25, 2012. Skipper’s Notes on Cruise Preparation. First Steps to Going South. Belle off to a night on the anchor to test systems. The big cruise to the Bahamas last spring was a success. We were well provisioned, and Southern Belle. Was equipped for all we encountered. A lot of planning and careful attention paid off enabling us to have had a safe and comfortable cruise. But since we got back to the dock, we’ve been getting her ready to head south again. A lot of extra work at the helm m...

Southern Belle: August 2012

http://southernbelle2012.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Turnaround: The Way Back Home. 65279;. Hull Speed: A Date With the Rocks. Early morning departure from Mangrove Cay. The week of April 15. Was spent enjoying Hope Town and celebrating our accomplishment. We had done it: sailed our own boat to a special place where our cruising dream came to life thirty years before. Time was spent thinking of our trip back home and the plans we had to make to cross the Little Bahama Bank. One last peek at the Lighthouse and harbor and then w...

Growing up southern is a privilege, really. it's more than where you're born, it's an idea and state of mind that seems imparted at birth. it's more than loving fried chicken, sweet tea, football, and country music. it's being hospitable, devoted to front porches, magnolias, moon pies, coca-cola.and each other. we don't become southern, we're born that way. Life as i knew it before living in the north east and life as it is in boston. Stay on James Island? Happy Birthday to my roommate Sarah!

Everything Happens For a Reason

A New Beginning, and I'm Already in LOVE! Mistake me for making excuses, because I am not. One of the bloggers (I don't even really consider myself one anymore) who feels the need to announce a break or tell my readers that I'm sorry I am not blogging (Sorry not sorry. I'm still on social media. If I ever made the decision to come back to blogging consistently, the readers would either be there or they wouldn't be, you know? Until then, I'll pop in whenever I feel up for it. It is the greatest! Even thou...

As We Gather

Tuesday, January 27, 2015. You are lucky because you get TWO blog posts from me today! I have been thinking about changing my blog name for a while now, but I wasn't sure what to change it to. For the past few years, I have had the name Just a Little Russian, as it was about my travels throughout Russia, but that doesn't fit anymore. So the questions were, what to change it to and what is the purpose for this blog? Here are the lyrics:. My hope for this blog is to have a place where people can gather and...

A Job that Enables Travel. One of the things I dreamed about when growing up was travel. I wanted to travel the world. Literally. Not to just go to Mexico for a 2 week a year vacation or to France for a once in a lifetime trip, but to genuinely travel around the world, one country at a time. Just like most kids in the western world, I was pushed to go to post secondary. Which I did and got a degree in psychology. What the heck was I going to do with that? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
