HISTORY OF THE BUILDING. The historic American Legion building, constructed in 1934, is made of handsome granite block, has soaring ceilings, and wood floors, making it an attractive site for traditional music and period dancing. There is a ladies changing area, so that you will not have to drive to the Ball in your hoops and gown. The Confederate monument has three inscriptions:. OF THE PAST, MINDFUL;. TO THE PRESENT, FAITHFUL;. FOR THE FUTURE, HOPEFUL. MOTTO OF SPARTAN CHAPTER U.D.C.

http://sumterball.blogspot.com/2015/12/you-are-invited.html
Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Saturday, April 22, 2017, 5 pm. American Legion Hall, Spartanburg, SC. On April 13, 1861, Fort Sumter fell to the Confederate bombardment, and the Charleston Mercury. Declared it to be "the opening ball of the Revolution." On April 22, 2017 we will recreate the patriotic fervor and war fever which swept South Carolina, as we enjoy the grace and beauty of a Victorian Ball and dinner. Period military or civilian attire is welcomed, but weapons, strong drink and tobacco are not.

Firing On Fort Sumter: The Opening Ball: ATTIRE
http://sumterball.blogspot.com/p/attire.html
We would be delighted if all guests attended in dress appropriate to the middle of the nineteenth century, but recognize that not everyone is a reenactor and owns period clothing. Please dress in your modern "Sunday Best" if you do not plan to come in military uniform or Victorian civilian dress. A Ball was a fancy occasion, and guests wore the best they owned. If you wish to obtain Victorian attire, these graphics will be a good guide for you. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
