Let’s Work Together. October 31, 2016. Say you were to travel back in time to a small town in central Maryland to a house with faux wood paneling and afghan throws on chairs. Why are you traveling back in time to some little town where people spend their weekends either in their homes with curtains drawn or riding lawn mowers? Well since this is my story, you’re stuck with me and this is where we’re going. That kid goes by the name, Jenny. Jenny has problems committing to things. Years from now, Jenn...

Let’s Work Together. Where You Going, Little One? October 17, 2016. I’m on an airplane somewhere over Arkansas heading to Los Angeles. The pilot just announced we passed Little Rock about 10 minutes ago. The flight attendants are walking down the aisle holding up bottles of water. I’m reminded of the guys who stand on Baltimore street corners during the summer months yelling Ice cold water, one dollar. How did he get here? Did he ever imagine he’d one day fly high above Arkansas? Or that he’d be LA bound?

Let’s Work Together. On Journey. Not the Band. April 1, 2017. One’s destination is never a place, but rather a new way of looking at things. Some months ago, I went to the Women’s March in Washington. Leading up to the march, I mentioned on facebook that our house was open to any out-of-town marchers that needed a place to stay. Friends messaged me in private and I thought, this must be how Ingrid Bergman. One of the friends who messaged me was one I hadn’t seen in 15 years FIFTEEN YEARS! During our year...

Let’s Work Together. November 29, 2016. Is one of the fiercest women I know. How fierce? She invited Billy Idol to her High School Graduation. Like, actually wrote him a letter by hand, licked a stamp, and mailed that puppy off. Now, he didn’t show up and sing Rebel Yell as she crossed the stage, but hot diggity! She wrote Billy Idol! I love that story because it sums up Melanie. In a nutshell: She’s badass. So what can we learn from these women? What do they seem to have that the rest of us need? Destig...

Let’s Work Together. September 23, 2016. Geezo and I stood in the living room in the same spot a lizard had run across the terra cotta tiles minutes before. Geezo was a head shorter than me and I was self-conscious about looking down at his salt and pepper hair as he spoke. I lowered myself down by half and sat on the padded arm of the couch. There were so many questions I wanted to ask him. Was this his family home? How many grandchildren did he have? How did he feel about the Italian economy? I’d learn...
