South of the Clouds. A blog about Yunnan, my life in China, and just about anything else that comes to mind. Plenty of photos, and many of my articles contain a Chinese glossary. South of the Clouds. A blog about Yunnan, my life in China, and just about anything else that comes to mind. Plenty of photos, and many of my articles contain a Chinese glossary. Wednesday, September 17, 2008. I was fortunate to know him. We first met on the Yunnan Revealed tour in 2005, when I was tour manager and he was a performer. He came again with us to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 2007. He was a good man and a phenomenal musician. Tuesday, September 16, 2008. Virtual City, Empty Fortress.

South of the Clouds. A blog about Yunnan, my life in China, and just about anything else that comes to mind. Plenty of photos, and many of my articles contain a Chinese glossary. Wednesday, April 08, 2009. Anything else would be uncivilized. I had an interesting encounter on the phone yesterday. A local magazine called to interview me about my thoughts on Kunming's  latest push. Here are some of the hard-hitting journalistic gems that were tossed my way: . In your opinion, how civilized is Kunming? Dude,...

Unfocused and Irregular 无焦和参差. An unfocused and irregularly update blog. Monday, September 22, 2008. Want to Smuggle Fake Goods? Don't Mess with the Chan. While I waited in line at China customs, I watched a TV in the customs area broadcasting a public service announcement. It went a little like this:. A North American guy and girl in their mid 20s are walking through the airport talking about their trip, ecstatic at what an awesome time they had. Boy: "Yea they were really something weren't they? We’re Back! | The Local Dialect

https://thelocaldialect.wordpress.com/2010/08/10/were-back

August 10, 2010. After nearly a month on the road, we’re back in Beijing! Three train rides ended up being involved — one mammoth 45 hour trip from Beijing to Kunming, a shorter jaunt of 18 hours from Beijing to Guilin, and then a medium sized journey from Guilin back to Beijing. A few bus rides between Kunming and Yiliang and then again between Guilin and Yangshuo were also involved. Well it is extremely late here so I’m headed for bed, but just wanted to make a quick post first. Goodnight all! Get ever...

Unfocused and Irregular 无焦和参差. An unfocused and irregularly update blog. Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Earlier this year, the China State Council banned free plastic bags from retailers. Now, in. China there's no choice of paper or plastic, it's just plastic, and most of the time those plastic bags are of the ultra-thin, ultra-flimsy variety. We're talking so flimsy that anything over the weight of a single beer requires double-bagging and a fast trip home before the bags break. Big enough. Most of the ti.

September 3, 2010. Young people into shape. Laquo; We’re Back! 8220;Lazy rich kids” — sounds like the students I taught during my first year in China. It was even worse for me, though, because they were college students, so grades were even more irrelevant to them. I’m glad your school wants to uphold higher standards in education — keep us posted on how things go! On September 3, 2010. So the new principal might be a good thing or is he trying to whip the teachers into shape too? On September 3, 2010.

southoftheclouds.com - Welcome

Hello and welcome to my site,. I just needed a few pages to exhibit some of my creative works. I've been on quite a journey for a while now. I geuss I began some kind of spiritual awakening in my mid twenties, travelling, writing and seeking. Naturally that journey continues to this day. Most of my writing stems from a place of great Love and Faith in Jesus and God. Here I have my music, poetry, some short writing and a book length, philosophical essay called Winter Sun.
