http://lfcalert.blogspot.com/2009/10/media-round-up-liverpool-2-manchester.html
Liverpool FC Daily News, Views and Reviews. Monday, 26 October 2009. Media Round-Up: Liverpool 2 - Manchester United 0. Hat a difference a day makes! This was Liverpool’s day from the moment the Kop brilliantly mocked the few beach-balls flying out from the United corner with hundreds of their own, from the moment the hairs on the back of local necks stood up in salute of a powerful rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone. Like licking an ashtray. Mmmmmmm. Sitting in the pub the other day with my colleague Rob Doyle, helping him with some important research for his excellent Southport Drinker blog. And drink -up column in The Champion, it struck me how often well-meaning state intervention can have unforeseen consequences. I am talking of course about the smoking ban. Want a better beach? Get rid of the sand. WHEN I first moved to this stretch of North-west coastline a few years ago, I was excited to think I was once again going to live by the seaside. Was brought up in a town on the South Coast, which had a steeply sloping pebble beach with fishing boats and impressive tides, and there was a pier which stretched out over deep water where you could fish for sea bass, grey mullet and plaice. Great for sand yachting and kite flying, but not much else. I know it sounds l...

Hospital carry-on is not much fun | Monty's World
https://mikemontgomery.wordpress.com/2008/03/06/hospital-carry-on-is-not-much-fun
Hospital carry-on is not much fun. MY view of hospitals has always been coloured by impressions from the media. I think the first image I had was gleaned from Carry On films, where hospitals were staffed by pompous consul-tants, bungling and randy junior doctors, saucy nurses and everything presided over by Hattie Jacques as the formidable Matron who swept through the wards like a galleon under full sail. In fiction, it’s all go, go, go. In reality, it’s dull, dull, dull. Nowhere to be seen. Years ago in...

Coffee and Espresso Musings. My name is Stuart Lee Archer and I'm a barista trainer and coffee enthusiast from Newcastle, England. I use this blog to document my thoughts, preparations for competition, record events throughout the year and just generally muse on coffee and espresso. (Mentness is an 'Old School' nickname). January 18, 2010. January 18, 2010. At this time I hear you all shouting in unison What is the chap? I shall let a quote from the ever witty The Chap website explain all. If this piece ...
