Thoughts on #ReadWomen2014 | Woodsiegirl Writes
https://woodsiegirlwrites.wordpress.com/2014/02/16/thoughts-on-readwomen2014
As mentioned in my 2013 reading review. I recently backed a great project on Kickstarter: Women destroy science fiction. A project to produce an all-female issue of Lightspeed Magazine (and since they absolutely smashed their funding goals, they’re now also producing “Women destroy horror” and “Women destroy fantasy” issues! The success of this project (having initially aimed for $5,000, they’ve raised more than 10 times that amount! They are almost always fifty percent. At the same time as I entered my ...

Tattoo | Woodsiegirl Writes
https://woodsiegirlwrites.wordpress.com/2015/04/11/tattoo
Today, after years of planning and wavering, I finally got the tattoo I’ve been hankering after. Here it is:. There is a bit of a story behind it. I’ve always loved tree designs, and had vaguely considered getting a design based on Yggdrasil. Before, though never seriously enough to do anything about it. I found that really comforting at the time, and kept thinking of it when we lost Mum to the cancer, and when a year later my eldest sister died from a sudden, unexpected heart attack. We went through...

2014 Reading Highlights and 2015 Reading Resolutions | Woodsiegirl Writes
https://woodsiegirlwrites.wordpress.com/2015/01/08/2014-reading-highlights-and-2015-reading-resolutions
2014 Reading Highlights and 2015 Reading Resolutions. Following on from yesterday’s reading by numbers, here’s what caught my attention in 2014…. 1 Best Book of 2014:. I’ve read some excellent books in the past year. I think it’s got to be either. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. By Michael Chabon, or. How to be both. By Ali Smith (the latter completely robbed of the Booker prize this year! If I had to pick one… probably. Just because I found it so immersive. 2 Least Favourite Book of 2014:.

Goodbye, Sir Terry | Woodsiegirl Writes
https://woodsiegirlwrites.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/goodbye-sir-terry
Goodbye, Sir Terry. This afternoon I heard the sad news that Sir Terry Pratchett had died. There’s not much I can say about this that isn’t already pouring out over Twitter, and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of thoughtful articles and obituaries in the coming days from those lucky enough to actually know him. The Colour of Magic. Dragons at Crumbling Castle. My brother said nothing when he saw it, just gave me a massive hug. I may not have known Terry Pratchett, but I will miss him. Rest in peace. Fill in yo...

Man Booker Challenge 2014 | Woodsiegirl Writes
https://woodsiegirlwrites.wordpress.com/2014/10/14/man-booker-challenge-2014
Man Booker Challenge 2014. As is becoming an annual tradition. Over the past six weeks I’ve been reading and blogging my way through the Man Booker Prize shortlist. My goal is always to attempt to finish the lot before the winner is announced – however I’ve never actually managed it, and this year has been no exception! I’ve managed five out of the six this year, but having only just started the sixth I’m extremely unlikely to have finished it before the winner is announced this evening! How to be both.

2014 Reading by Numbers | Woodsiegirl Writes
https://woodsiegirlwrites.wordpress.com/2015/01/07/2014-reading-by-numbers
2014 Reading by Numbers. I realise I’m a little late with my annual. Round-up of my reading stats from the past year – I’ve just moved house and haven’t had a computer or laptop available to make my pretty charts on until now! Hopefully this has been worth the wait…. This year I’ve decided to split my usual long post in half. This first part will feature all the pretty charts and number-crunching on my reading, and my next post (coming soon, I promise! So, on with the numbers…. Going by the graph above t...

All posts by woodsiegirl. As mentioned, over the Christmas holiday and a short winter sub break after New Year, I got some good reading done. In keeping with my resolution to review more books, here’s what I enjoyed most from my holiday reading…. Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir. If you’re already familiar with Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, then her work will need no introduction. If you’re not, then GO AND READ HER BLOG RIGHT NOW. Seriously, now. I’ll wait. Bucket List | Woodsiegirl Writes
https://woodsiegirlwrites.wordpress.com/bucket-list
A list of things I want to do before I die, in no particular order. My plan is to keep this updated as new things occur to me, and if I manage to do any then I will blog about them! Some of the following might take me years to get around to. One or two are at best impractical, if not actually impossible. However, no one ever said that a bucket list had to be realistic…. Go into space (assuming commercial space travel becomes possible/affordable within my lifetime! Take part in an archeological dig. The P...
