Saturday, April 13, 2013. What a season we have in store! Hi everybody. sorry it's been a while since I posted. Things are going 1000 miles an hour here as the season rapidly approaches. First and foremost, let's talk about what's been happening in the water. I got my first windsurf session in last Saturday at Wolf Lake. It was HOWLING, gusting into the 40's. I started the day on 5.5m and ended overpowered on 4.6m! A few weeks ago I was approached by the organizers of Leon's Triathlon. This series kicks ...

Windy City Waterman: the cold stroke... and stuff
http://windycitywaterman.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-cold-stroke-and-stuff.html
Wednesday, February 20, 2013. The cold stroke. and stuff. We arrived to some nice waist to chest high surf. In the end we logged 5 straight days of surf. We even surfed the day of the race. not recommended procedure but we couldn't pass it up :). Here are a few of my great friend Matt Sommer. Matt's parents live in WB and they hosted us for the weekend. Here's Starboard team rider Dan Gavere (on the left) taking an early lead in the race. he would go on to win the 14' elite division. Great Lakes SurfSUP ...

Windy City Waterman: little swell, big swell
http://windycitywaterman.blogspot.com/2013/01/little-swell-big-swell.html
Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Little swell, big swell. Sorry for the lack of action shots. gotta get my photographer to come out for a session soon. In the meantime, all you get is my smiling mug. New Year's Day brought a fun little swell from the north. I got out at Silver Beach in St. Joseph, Michigan after meeting with friends Jen and Nick from Live Love SUP. And this brings up an important point about progression in SUP. When you're getting new gear, it's a good idea to shoot for the board that's j...

Windy City Waterman: October 2012
http://windycitywaterman.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Today Long Island is reeling from the effects of Tropical Storm Sandy so I guess it's a good day to post this video to remind everyone that it won't be long before the skies clear, the cleanup is done and we're back to having fun on the water. I hope all my friends out East are safe. Thanks again to Jimi for sharing his gear for this epic session! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Friend Matt on Facebook. Follow Windy City Waterman by Email. This is my other writing companion: the Duluth Pack leather journal! I used to buy a journal for each season, until I came across this beautiful Duluth Pack leather journal last year. All I need now are inexpensive refills. The journal’s superior craftsmanship enhances my whole writing experience! Kurt shared with me that a pencil is the best tool to use if I aim for long-term preservation (he used to be an autograph hunter in the early 90s). So, I have been using my treasured Graphgear 1000 0.9mm. We ha...

Windy City Waterman: August 2013
http://windycitywaterman.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 20, 2013. The stand up world series returns to CHICAGO. This weekend the Stand Up World Series returns to Chicago for their second annual Pro-Am race extravaganza. I'll be there all weekend and, at the risk of sounding bossy, YOU SHOULD BE TOO! I can't tell you how much I learned and improved as a paddler last year at this event. This is an incredible opportunity to spend time on the beach alongside the top pros in standup paddling and is well worth the effort to be there. 183; 10am ̵...
