The Douro River is one of the major rivers of the Iberian peninsula, flowing westward with its outlet at Porto. The Douro vinhateiro, a wine-growing region since Roman times, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. This region has a microclimate allowing for the cultivation of olives, almonds and especially grapes for the production of port wine. We made our base at Tabua ç. O, a charming hill-top village.
