Whilst the area has many supermarkets you just can't beat a Spanish street market (or 'Mercadillo') and the nearby town of Oliva offers the largest market in the immediate area. The trees are bare in the shots to the right but offer a leafy arcade of dappled shade. Return to main site. You're self-catering and so you'll need to go shopping from time to time. You might think the little village of Barx was at the foot of a mountain when you look at this picture .yet it is merely at the lowest crossing point between two peaks! You are looking up one of the main streets. It's not very clear in this shot, but about a third of the way up there is a carved religious effigy. .it is Saint Miguel. This stone carving has been positioned so that the patron saint of the village can look down upon it and (presumably) look after it. When they have customers! 124; More Views.

The place has also suffered from the excessive enthusiasm of the building trade .making it difficult to photograph and leave an impression that Dénia is pictureque.
