Thursday, August 30, 2007. This blog has been a bit of an orphan lately. I was using it mostly for organizational purposes, but the occasional surfer does happen to stumble upon this, so I want to make sure that he or she is directed to some more up to date material (as my entries to this blog are winding down):. Check out some of the publications we've made on the subject of sparse CCA and sparse Eigen-methods on my page. Posted by etfd @ 11:23 AM. Tuesday, February 13, 2007. A good chunk of my thesis c...

sparseCCA: January 2007

http://sparsecca.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 25, 2007. On making the sparsity parameter an implicit variable in the program. Currently the sparsity parameter k ( as in card(x). Must be hand tuned when we run the solver. What if we turn this parameter into a variable in the program. I.e., we let the program "search" for the appropriate sparsity. Just something to think about. I think it should be fairly easy to modify current program to do this. Posted by etfd @ 1:03 PM. Posted by etfd @ 10:55 AM. Wednesday, January 24, 2007. Me an...

Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Personal notes: From this point forward. We finished up a submission to ICML last week. The submission took a general tone and focused on a new technique solve a generalized eigenvalue problem subject to sparsity constraints. There's still a lot of juice that can be squeezed out of this project actually, in addition to the other stuff that I wanna/need to do for my thesis. Here is a list of directions/to do list from this point forward:. An application paper for ISMIR 2007 mus...

Thursday, January 25, 2007. I wonder how well we can apply machine translation techniques to heterogeneous data modeling. Something to look into when I got some time. Posted by etfd @ 10:55 AM. sparseCCA: Sanity Check

http://sparsecca.blogspot.com/2007/01/sanity-check.html

Thursday, January 11, 2007. You can run SCCA with a cardinality constraint set to k = 1 to 10. Very interesting experiment. The inherent cardinality of the example is 5. This becomes apparent in the SPCA direction when k = 6. When k = 5 sometimes the PCA directions flips negative other times positive. As k goes up to 10 the non-zero elements become less sparse in w. Similarly as k goes to 1. Posted by etfd @ 11:02 PM. San Diego, California, United States. View my complete profile. Sparse CCA on its way.

Sparse Coherence

Making occasionally thoughtful connections on how the mind works, and how to build intelligence in silicon. What is the probability of this coin landing heads up on the next throw? This article introduces two kinds of probability: variability and uncertainty. Let's say that we have flipped the coin seven times, and we got five heads and two tails. We always have incomplete knowledge - and so there is always both variability and uncertainty. In order to make a rational prediction, you must take into a...
