There are three subcategories of SPD:. Sensory-Based Motor Disorder (SBMD). Senosory Modulation Disorder (SMD). Sensory Discrimination Disorder (SDD). Vestibular (position and movement). The child may struggle with one to all of the areas in each subcategory disorder. The childs nervous system may respond in one of three ways:. The childs response may remain consistant in one or more sensory areas or it may change from day to day and depending on the cirumstances. Highly gifted children often have SPD.
