Tuesday, April 16th, 2013. Email to a friend. I’ve been inconsistent in posting here. While I enjoy noting observations and proposing arguments, something hasn’t been working for me. I think that has to do with the format. For me, ideasonideas is about lengthier pieces almost essays. The problem I run into is having something to say but perhaps not quite. In the meanwhile, I want to thank you for reading the posts here. I sincerely appreciate all the feedback readers like you have given over the year...

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012. Email to a friend. My morning bus ride affords an opportunity to listen to music, witness sleeping commuters drool, and catch up design and technology news. Over the past months, I’ve made an effort to skip my usual reads ( TechCrunch. And instead look at more ad-centric publications like AdWeek. Myth #1: Controlling the Conversation. Back in 2008, social media gurus were all over the notion of not trying to control the conversation. They repeated this platitude until the...

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012. Email to a friend. I’m taking a short break from ideasonideas. (Don’t worry I’ll be back.) I’m doing so in order to find a little time to work on a new project that I feel strongly about. For now, it’s a simple blog that poses questions about how we choose to live. It’s still in a nascent state (it hasn’t even been designed, yet) but I think the content is relevant, timely, and perhaps even important. If you’re curious, please visit deliberatism.com. And take a look around.

Monday, February 11th, 2013. How Lo Can You Go? Email to a friend. If people want crap, then designers can make that crap. You know the brands and what they need. Just lower your standards and rack up the billable hours while trying to fill the void. Content seems easy, but it messes brands up. Actually, this last approach does make some sense; it’s just the logistics in accomplishing this that tend to prove challenging. Imagine a soccer garment company. While they’re probably quite good at desig...The l...

Sunday, November 4th, 2012. Beat the Creative Block. Email to a friend. You’ve been staring at the screen for hours and it hasn’t changed much. As the moments pass, you start to doubt yourself: Am I not good at this? What if I can’t get it right? Am I the lamest designer alive? We’ve all been there at one time or another, but there is a way to break the cycle. My usually articulate peers, however, were at a bit of a loss. Explained that she rarely gets blocked, while Nik Hafermaas. The problem of creativ...
