Chris and Lindsey’s Place: Canon Rawnsley's May at the Lakes

http://www.chrisandlindsey.co.uk/2015/05/canon-rawnsleys-may-at-lakes.html

Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. Canon Rawnsley's May at the Lakes. Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley's entry for May in his Months at the Lakes includes a surprising description of a visit to Arnside Knott. The view from Arnside Knott is beautiful and ever-changing with the seasons. It's a view I love and I was delighted to read that Rawnsley loved the Knott, too. Looking for our business website? Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. Another short walk squeezed in between sunrise and sunset. But at least today was generally brighter, allowing some photos at the beginning of the walk. We parked in Kentmere village and followed the River Kent valley north towards the reservoir. What a beautiful and peaceful walk. No doubt the sprinkling of snow on the tops helped to create a special atmosphere. Our journey began at Kentmere's medieval church.

Chris and Lindsey’s Place: Lowther Castle

http://www.chrisandlindsey.co.uk/2015/05/lowther-castle.html

Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. We had a fabulous day today. We headed North to Penrith to explore a number of castles and ruins. Our first stop was Lowther Castle, the former home of the Lonsdale family. It's now in ruins although the estate thrives. In thy majestic pile are seen. Cathedral pomp and grace, in apt accord. With the baronial castle's sterner mien:. Union significant of God adored,. And charters won and guarded by the sword.

Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. Our walk up to Beacon Tarn last year. Was one of our favourites - gently undulating grassy terrain with interesting flora and fauna. Today we explored another area nearby on Torver Common, just west of Coniston Water. It was a crisp, cold day and the recent snow falls were evident as we approached the Lakes. Click here for the map. There were plenty of lovely old trees. A surprise appears over the brow. Anothe...

Chris and Lindsey’s Place: May 2015

http://www.chrisandlindsey.co.uk/2015_05_01_archive.html

Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. Last Saturday we headed north and explored a few old - and not so old - ruins in north Cumbria. We were left a little saddened by Lowther and were cheered up by the bright yellow rapeseed field which we passed as we left the village. Nearby are the ruins of Brougham Hall, a 15th century Tudor building which - like Lowther Castle - was requisitioned by the military and used for the development of the secret tan...

Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. Hardwicke Rawnsley's Spring Days. I think that I've become a little obsessed with Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley recently! Both his verse and his prose writings succeed in conjuring up the essence of the Lake District. So, here is a sonnet from his wonderful little book "Sonnets at the English Lakes" - simply beautiful. These days are the days before the Swallow dance. With twittering music skims the liquid floor,.

Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. Canon Rawnsley's April at the Lakes. In April at the Lakes Hardwicke Rawnsley writes:. The weather over the past few weeks has been really changeable. We've had sunshine and warm days, heavy rain and, on one memorable day, we even had snow! Canon Rawnsley would enjoy this month of contrasts, I think! She dwelt among the untrodden ways. Beside the springs of Dove,. A Maid whom there were none to praise. We enjo...

Chris and Lindsey’s Place: Books

http://www.chrisandlindsey.co.uk/p/books.html

Chris and Lindsey’s Place. We love books, music, technology, going interesting places, walking. We both love books. This isn't a photo of our house (in fact, it's a photo of Shakespeare and Co bookshop in Paris), but it could be. We have around 30,000 books of all types, collected over many years. Lindsey has a special interest in juvenile literature from the 1920s and 1930s and has complete first edition sets of many of them. Another part of Shakespeare and Co in Paris.
