Speculative Cities

It is really very simple. The colors of the days and the watermelons go like this—. Thursday: black, soundless watermelons. Ndash; Richard Brautigan. In Watermelon Sugar. We have an interesting thing with the sun here. It shines a different color every day. No one knows why this is, not even Charley. We grow the watermelons in different colors the best we can. This is how we do it: Seeds gathered from a gray watermelon picked on a gray day and then planted on a gray day will make more gray watermelons.

Speculative Cities — In Watermelon Sugar

http://speculativecities.com/post/98236355979/in-watermelon-sugar

Over the next month I will be posting some thoughts on Richard Brautigan’s 1968 novel,. A short book that could be read entirely over the course of a pleasant autumn afternoon. While not science fiction, Brautigan’s book about the writing of a book that explores whether or not it is possible to find meaning or positivity in suicide, and also speculates on how humans might organize community in a post-apocalyptic future with utopian ideals. That often pivot to women. Trout Fishing in America.
