Main objectives of this project. To create awareness among the citizens, industrialists, business people, people in the teaching profession, students, etc. of Bangalore about the current status of eco-system in and around the TG Halli Reservoir and about the need to preserve and rejuvenate the same. To motivate people to plant and grow saplings and maintain the same under this program. To increase greenery and to conserve the eco system of TG Halli reservoir catchment area. To enable public participation.

This project would result in planting and maintaining at least 20,000 saplings in and around the catchment area of TG Halli. This would prevent soil erosion and siltation to the reservoir, increase fertility of soil and enhance the bio-diversity of the whole eco system. It would create awareness among general public about the environment issues in general and eco system of TG Halli in particular. This project would be the best and most apt gift we would give to the next generation of Bangaloreans.

Spoorthivana is a joint venture between BWSSB and Parisara, an Environment Protection Organization (a Registered NGO). The Govt. of Karnataka, vide GO No. UDD 73 MNI 05 dated 18/04/2005, have approved this project. The BWSSB has earmarked about 300 acres of its protected land for this project. Parisara has been designated as the lead organization to execute this project. An advisory committee has been constituted to oversee the implementation. Shri M. M. Sadiq. Today, we are all facing acute shortage of pure water, and this problem is only increasing day by day. Till recently, naturally available water from sources such as tanks, lakes, streams, open wells and bore wells could be used without much treatment. However, many of these water sources have been polluted beyond repair. Through our project, it is proposed to offer opportunities to the citizens to celebrate / observe any of the occasions and make it a memorable one by planting seedlings and growing trees.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Felt bad to find Kamyab', the honge. Planted over a month back. By Mr K R Gurukar, being robbed off its top leaves, presumably, by vandals. The leaves couldn't have been eaten away by animals, according to Mr Gurukar, who says cattle don't eat honge. Mushrooms have now sprouted over this dead stump of the initial tree that had once stood on the roadside of a shopping block on Ramavilas Rd. This was the status of 'Kamyab' on July 23 - three weeks after it was planted.
