Learning to keep bees – spriggy twigging

https://spriggy-twigging.com/2016/05/07/first-blog-post

Rambling musings of a nature lover and budding botanist. Learning to keep bees. May 7, 2016. May 21, 2016. This weekend could not have been any more different. It was already over 18 C by the time I reached the training apiary and the bees were busily entering and exiting their hives. Peeking over the Hawthorn hedge into the apiary. A beautiful piece of brace comb attached to the crown board. The wonders of wild garlic. 4 thoughts on “ Learning to keep bees. May 9, 2016 at 5:38 pm. Liked by 1 person.

Rambling musings of a nature lover and budding botanist. A plea for the bumblebee. May 12, 2016. May 21, 2016. There has been a lot of media coverage about the plight of the honeybee over the last year and it seems that many people are now aware of the issues surrounding their struggles and what they can do to help. Less so for the furry relative of the honeybee, the wild and untamed bumblebee. 8220;So what can I do? For inspiration or to see how bumblebee friendly your garden is. May 13, 2016 at 10:27 am.

Regenerative effects of birch sap – spriggy twigging

Rambling musings of a nature lover and budding botanist. Regenerative effects of birch sap. May 19, 2016. May 21, 2016. In January I decided to go sugar-free for a couple of months. Surprisingly I found it quite fun because I ended up discovering all sorts of food and drinks that I normally wouldn’t have considered consuming. So it was during this time when I was looking for a drink other than water, that I came across birch sap. You should only tap mature trees as irreparable damage can be done to a you...

Rambling musings of a nature lover and budding botanist. The healing power of calendula. May 13, 2016. May 21, 2016. It was a seedy kind of day yesterday, the perfect kind of warm day to sow seeds. Personally I love the magic of planting seeds outdoors and seeing them come to life and develop into happy, healthy plants. Top of my list yesterday was a packet of. The name calendula derives from the historic name for the first day of the month in the Roman calendar,. As flowers would often appear on this da...

Rambling musings of a nature lover and budding botanist. I was born and raised in South Africa and enjoyed spending time outdoors horse riding in my youth. I moved to England in 1999 and studied horse management then historic building and environment conservation. Most recently I have worked as an assistant conservation officer and as a textile conservation technician and am currently exploring my interest in beekeeping, gardening, herbology and conservation of the natural environment.

The life and loves of a time-poor plantsman. The Making of the Garden. Posts About the Garden. The Making of the Garden. Potted hostas revel in the cool shade of our urban garden. Highgate Hill, North London. North East facing. Virtually sunless in winter with morning sun in the spring, summer and autumn. Sheltered by London brick walls. The life and loves of a time-poor plantsman. The Making of the Garden. Posts About the Garden. The Making of the Garden. The Making of our London Garden. Victorian children would once have used this spot as a playground. Quite a task, and one which took four long nights trudging in and out through our flat. February 16, 2015. Been the most productive use of our time. March 24, 2014. While watching a TED talk recently, I learned the following statistics about smiling. Less than 33% of adults smile more than 20 times a day, while 14% smile less than five times a day. The simple interpretation……the majority of us are smiling between 5-20 times a day. That may not be all that surprising until you learn that children smile on average over. Are we too busy to remember to do so? Or Guests we may need to deal with.
