Fly Fishing and Fly Tying From Manitoba Canada. Blog extension of the long running Fly Fishing Manitoba. Monday, October 13, 2014. Hunt Lake October 13 2014. For whatever reason, I have not been fishing since I have gotten back from the east coast. I fully intended last week but it was way too windy to get my butt blown around a lake (as well as cold and rainy). But I was also able to entice my wife to come along. 2009 Tiger (not mine). I have no idea why these fish make it into the eastern stocking list...

Now leading up to this day we had temps in the high 20's but any other year fishing at the end of March and having a day time high of -1 with no wind would be considered a blessing. So the Fairford River Freeze Off was on even if only 2 participants from Fly Fishing Manitoba. It was -5 on the wake up in the 'Peg and 5 degrees cooler at our destination.

Visually it is only a few docks, benches and manicured landscaping away from the facilities at any high priced private fly fishing facility that I have been at or read about in North America or Europe. But instead of looking like this. It looks like this. They played their music loud making relaxing a challenge and dr...

Fly Fishing and Fly Tying From Manitoba Canada. Blog extension of the long running Fly Fishing Manitoba. Friday, May 6, 2011. Float Tube Fly Fishing Revisited. I originally wrote this a number of years ago when float tubing and still water fly rodding were relatively new. Since then this aspect of the sport has skyrocketed. Fly Fishing and Fly Tying From Manitoba Canada. Blog extension of the long running Fly Fishing Manitoba. Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Bower and William Lake. I have grouped these two lakes together as they are somewhat similar. Both lakes are located in the Turtle Mountain area of Manitoba, 1½ hours south of Brandon making them 3½ away from Winnipeg. There is good camping nearby with everything from rough to full service. Great camping right on the lake but they are all un-serviced. Bower and William Lake.

So I am putting a new line on a new reel (to go with a new to me rod). First problem is the backing. Apparently a Cabelas RLS #4 needs 250ft of backing! Snake on the loop end....

Fly Fishing and Fly Tying From Manitoba Canada. Blog extension of the long running Fly Fishing Manitoba. Tuesday, October 4, 2011. That's What Fall is For. Many of us outdoor types pine away for spring during winter. As fishers we pine through early spring till things warm up and 'get good' later spring and early summer. Then we all lament when it is too hot to fish or morally drag fish up from the deep and wait for fall. Yellow Foam over Hare's Ear Dry. Fall Brook Falls to a Sunfish Fly. Without the net...

If you find yourself here and are reading my final installment you may want to start at the beginning on my 32 day (2 travel 30 vacation) east coast vacation.
