We Breathe Out Stars: August 2014
http://webreatheoutstars.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
We Breathe Out Stars. Friday, August 22, 2014. When we lived in St. Louis I taught kindergarten sunday school . At the beginning of class, as in many sunday schools, first we took attendance and then we collected a little something for charity. On one particular day we passed the small donation envelope around the room. Quarters fell in, dimes, on top of one another, ‘clink, clink . . . clink.’. Because that was the best thing she could think to do with it. And when we saw her. 8220;If you see your fello...

We Breathe Out Stars: December 2014
http://webreatheoutstars.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
We Breathe Out Stars. Tuesday, December 9, 2014. When my son was very, very small, there was a book we used to read to him. This book told the story of a mother and her a little boy who walked to a beach, across the dunes to the resting of the waves. They looked for starfish; they had a picnic of sandwiches and pink lemonade. Lying on their blanket, they had a nap. Then it was gone. When we read this story the first time, he looked up and said “Gleaming Gone”. I have a lump in my throat. I am the blanket.

We Breathe Out Stars: "Is this all there is?"
http://webreatheoutstars.blogspot.com/2014/08/is-this-all-there-is.html
We Breathe Out Stars. Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Is this all there is? Two years before my father died, he was refusing medical treatment. At that time it became increasingly apparent that if he did not choose treatment soon, his passing would be very soon after. It had not been very much time - perhaps only a year - since his own mother had died, just before her 103rd birthday. So there we were, in the hospital. My father said to me "why didn't I have 103 years? And then: "Is this all there is? He leads ...

We Breathe Out Stars: Everyone Has Bones
http://webreatheoutstars.blogspot.com/2014/08/everyone-has-bones.html
We Breathe Out Stars. Saturday, August 9, 2014. A hundred years ago, when I was in college, it was my job to plan all the big events for the university's Student Union. And when it was Halloween and I had to plan the Student Union Party, I had this bright idea (! That I wanted a skeleton to greet everyone as they entered the party. As it turns out, to find a skeleton at a large university is not the most difficult thing in the world, if you are willing to work for it. Without regard to their name, self, ...

We Breathe Out Stars: September 2014
http://webreatheoutstars.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
We Breathe Out Stars. Saturday, September 20, 2014. Fishing and The Hospital Bed. Yesterday they brought a hospital bed into my father's house. In the past few weeks he has been declining and now. He doesn’t have the strength to get up. But he did. And of course, he fell. Dad has always been so independent…wanted to do things his way. 8230;so now he is being offered containment. With high rails on the sides, it is his worst nightmare:. That very same bed that contained a marriage….two marriages. Ust afte...

We Breathe Out Stars: Singers at Siesta
http://webreatheoutstars.blogspot.com/2014/11/singers-at-siesta.html
We Breathe Out Stars. Saturday, November 1, 2014. It was on the first day at the park when we saw him playing the guitar, sitting between statues. He had put his empty red canvas case on the ground - so as to collect euros. His voice was lovely and although we were walking, we stopped and sat. When he sang – and when he sang. 8211; we were moved. Such a low and sweet and quiet tone. We listened to one song and then another.and another. They said ‘people are resting here in the park’. It was 16.00. It is ...

http://webreatheoutstars.blogspot.com/2014/10/i-fell-on-my-face.html
We Breathe Out Stars. Wednesday, October 8, 2014. I fell on my face. A few years back, when I had my Atlanta practice, a man came to see me who was a singer. Kind of a famous. Guy - been in the business about fifty years. I was kind of touched that he came to see me. I asked him.how did you find me? He said - I looked on the internet - I googled 'the best'. Ah, flattery, flattery. So now he is in my office. Try as I might to act as professionally. As I know how after about a million years in practice,.
