Kids and Nature: Hepaticas
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009/04/hepaticas.html
Monday, April 13, 2009. Today’s nature calendar. Search for opening buds of hepaticas. This task was easy since I have a sharp-lobed hepatica in my garden. The buds are almost open. I think they would be very difficult to find in the wild if they had not opened yet. Labels: april nature calendar. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am a mom to 3 young children. Kids and Nature: Shrub branches
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009/04/shrub-branches.html
Sunday, April 5, 2009. Today’s nature calendar. Place more shrub branches in water in the classroom. We are on our second set of flowering branches. The first set we tried were some forsythia branches from our backyard. They bloomed a beautiful yellow. We noted that the flowers came out first, and then the leaves. Crabapple blossoms on our kitchen table. Labels: april nature calendar. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. He's loud and friendly. He's 4 years old. Random books from...

Kids and Nature: January 2009
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2009. In the first place, do not send them; if it is anyway possible, take them; for, although the children should be left much to themselves, there is a great deal to be done and a great deal to be prevented during these long hours in the open air. Charlotte Mason, Home Education Vol. 1 p. 43. Last week I tried to toss the kids in the backyard by themselves and this was the result:. My mitten fell off and I can't get up the stairs and why is my Mommy not coming to help me! He is a s...

Kids and Nature: November 2008
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 21, 2008. Gearing up for Winter Nature Study. The weather has turned a bit chilly around here. This week has been cold enough that I have needed to get out all of our winter outerwear in order for us to enjoy being outside. I wrote about this topic. At the end of February last year, this seems a more appropriate time. Here's a little fashion show from the Bluejay, showing how we keep warm:. Last year it took me approximately half an hour to suit everyone up to go outside. This year I...

Kids and Nature: March 2009
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2009. We have seen the robin, killdeer, and grackle so far. On March 1st the nature task was to start a 'bird friends return' calendar. We have the calendar up on our fridge, and whenever we see a new arrival we jot it down. I need to print off a new calendar page for April. Monday, March 30, 2009. Be sure that you water your garden seedlings thoroughly as soon as they are dry looking. We have two sets of seedlings growing right now. Our milkweed seeds have just sprouted. Left a commen...

Kids and Nature: A handful of Chickadees and Nuthatches
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009/04/handful-of-chickadees-and-nuthatches.html
Sunday, April 12, 2009. A handful of Chickadees and Nuthatches. We returned to the conservation area where we had fed the chickadees two weeks ago. The kids were eager to explore every small side trail leading off the main path. At one point we could hear lots of chirping and singing in the trees. I took out my ziploc bag of birdseed and almost immediately they were on our hands, one after the other in rapid succession. Charlotte Mason, Vol. 1 pg. 90. Burgess Bird Book for children, pg. 220.
