The aircraft is not equipped with flaps. The Yak-50 had exceptionally fine handling characteristics enhanced by a relatively high power-to-weight ratio. The goal of the squadron is to promote the preservation of military aircraft and have a clearinghouse for information pertaining to these aircraft. The squadron went inactive until Greg Medford stood the squadron up in 2002 by bringing the organization current with both the state and with EAA Warbirds of America. He squadron has been active with hosting the EAA B-17 Aluminum Overcast.
