Saturday, September 13, 2008. Or at least use in moderation! I am a big fan of nutmeg in recipes, particularly my favorite spanakopita recipe. This week a news story appeared about a nutmeg overdose triggered by a recipe for apple cake printed in a Swedish magazine that erroneously called for 20 whole nutmegs- you'd think people would question that, but no, someone actually followed the recipe to the letter, and overdosed on nutmeg as a result. This article appeared in the Independent on Sunday.

Saturday, October 18, 2008. Not prize-winning jams, but this comes close. I was the lucky winner of an email contest to receive a copy of River Cottage Handbook No. 2: Preserves. Hopefully next year I'll get a chance to try some of the recipes, many of which seem different from typical US recipes. The contest was hosted by food magazine. Which is the most interesting food publication I've found here in Devon. Thanks to food and the River Cottage. For this early Christmas present!
